Olivia Francine Sythe, the older sister of Jake Francis had fled towards the city to make herself a living. She completely abandoned her younger brother because of that. She chose not to take him with her. She chose to cut ties with him. There were reasons but no definite one. If someone would ask her, she would answer that she doesn't want to. She and Jake indeed grew up together and she watched how his mother had brought him to this world and for her when Jake came in, their life was never been pleasant.
She was educated that she has no father, and that, she would never ever look for him. There's a desire to meet him one day but she doesn't have money to spend on traveling, there were lots of rumors where his father might be residing but she shouldn't waste resources now that her family wasn't financially stable. They had so many debts, and her mother works hard every day, almost day and night just to provide food on the table. It was really bitter, she was eating every meal but she just tasted mud. And that, she learned how she hated this kind of life and wanted to run away from it.
'How many roads must a man walk down, before you call him a man?...'
Her mother always told her to look after Jake when she had to leave for work. And she did, she never left her eyes off on him. She watched him play with his toys, ran around the house, and broke something in the kitchen. She tried to be calm towards him but there's something towards Jake that she hates that she would never try to alienate. And then there's this sudden thought that she thinks when she's alone if Jake wasn't here, would it make a little bit different? When Jake was born, he was going back and forth to the hospital, he always caught colds, cough, malaria, and pneumonia, he has a weak immunity system. And she sometimes wished him dead because of financial reasons. The hospital's bills were going high, and even if they work hard in a hundred years, they would never pay those hospital bills. To her, Jake is just a burden to the family.
"What did the doctor say?" she asked her mother after she went to the office to talk to the doctor about Jake's condition. It was one of those times that he has committed suicide. Jake has been in a hospital for a week.
"Jake might be able to come home tomorrow if his condition continued to be stable," and Olivia never wanted to hear that, she was asking if they could take a discount on the hospital bills. Even a little might be enough to lessen it. "What about the bills? How could we pay that?" she wants to hear some good news. "I can pay it, I will just have to sell your grandmother's necklace to pay all of it," her mother answered immediately without thinking.
Olivia can't believe it. She dropped her jaw, "W-what? You'll sell it? And pay for his bills? That was supposed to be my tuition, Mom! You know how badly I want to go to school to change this kind of situation!" she screamed and all of the people nearby had turned towards them and now whispers began circulating in the hospital. She never raised her voice high to her mother. She wanted to help her, to support her, because she clearly understands their situation. But she paused, did her mother understands what she was trying to do?
She just wanted their life to be away from trouble, to be away from nightmares.
