Angela's POV; 2 Years Ago
"You want me to what?!" I say in shock, unable to stop myself from screaming.
"I'm so so sorry for asking a favor like this from you. I just don't know what else to do. Please Terri?" Denna all but pleads with me.
"But...why?"
"She's rejecting the memory tampering. I'm afraid she's going to remember some things, and if she does, I don't know which parts. Scarlet's going to ruin everything if she does. She's going to put herself in danger!"
I don't say anything. I don't want to remember. I don't want to be one of the only people left on Earth that remembers our history and what really happened. It'll be torture to me. But how can I say no to Denna? Especially if it's for Scarlet too? And Keeper already got his memory tampering.
"What about you?" I ask instead.
"I'm not going to get my memory tampered with, to make sure everything goes according to plan. And, I'm going to write everything down. I don't want the truth of what really happened to be lost forever, in the slight chance that some will survive. Plus I need to go around the world and do the other cities. This planet has a lot of people."
"But...well first of all, your train can't hold everyone. Second, you can't get everyone anyways. Third, won't that be tough for you? You're going to be all alone. At least let me stay with you."
"No, you need to stay with Scarlet. Please." I look at Denny carefully. The bags underneath her eyes. Her long messy hair that hasn't had a chance to be cut in over a year. Her sense of fashion went when she no longer cared about it. Baggy shirt and plain shorts, both dirty and crumpled. Pale face.
She's been working so hard this past year, to make sure the train can save at least some people. It's already consumed millions in Canada. It will reach the United States soon. Of course this has already gotten out, there's no way we could cover this forever, when it's this big. People are panicking and moving out of the northern part of North America in waves, causing several thousand casualties just from the chaos alone. The public does not know about the train yet, but deaths would sky rocket if they knew.
"Ok." Is all I have the heart to say.
"Ok?" Denna's eyes light up, something I haven't seen in ages. She looks a little hopeful, though she should know better than that.
"Ok, I'll do it." Denny clutches my hands and brings our foreheads together.
"Thank you. I love you, Terri Angela Skinner."
Present
They all stare at me like I've officially gone crazy. Maybe I have, no one should have to go through this in their one lifetime. I explain before Nora or Ophelia screams some more at me.
"There's a team of people, on a top notch high grade military plane that can go up to speeds of three hundred miles per hour. They ride right in front of the mist to make sure the train is running ahead of it properly. I can contact them, have them pick us up." The plane also holds your wife. I think, risking a glance at Scarlet. She's not even looking at me, she's looking at Nora. They share another look.
"Well can you do it? Have you done it yet?" Kai asks with hope.
To answer, I pull out the device Denna gave to me so long ago, I never thought I would actually have to use this. It's rectangular, with a single button on it. When I press it, it alerts Denna of my location and she knows that I'm in trouble. I push the button.
"There. Now we wait."
I'm not even sure if it'll work, Denna could be dead already. I bury my head in my arms, hugging my knees to my chest. It hurts to think about her. It hurts to think about anything nowadays because all my thoughts are filled with the past. A past of good times and good friends. A past that has gone.
