Steve blinked open his eyes to find himself in an unfamiliar place. He was lying close to a lake. It was a beautiful lake though. Blue-gray waves lapped at the shore and washed gently over his legs. How had he gotten there? Had one of the other Avengers brought him here?
Steve felt different somehow...he felt smaller. It was almost like he had been before the experiment over 70 years ago, except he still felt strong. Bruce's project must've worked. That must've been why he felt different.
Steve looked around. He was surrounded by five sleeping cats. Closest to him was a russet cat with a glowing blue circle in his chest. A blue circle that looked suspiciously like...like an arc reactor! Was that Tony?!
Steve glanced down at his hands to see paws that were covered in fluffy bluish-gray fur. These cats were the Avengers! Bruce's experiment had turned them into cats! Surely Bruce knew how to turn back into humans though, right?
Steve climbed to his paws. It was strange to be walking on four legs. It felt to him like he was a toddler again, crawling around his small house in Brooklyn. "GUYS WAKE UP!"
Tony lifted his head sleepily. "Leave me alone, Pepper!"
"I'm not Pepper!" Steve protested.
Tony opened his eyes to find Steve hovering over him. "Um, why is there a cat standing over me?"
"Because I want to," Steve chuckled.
Tony jerked in surprise. "What. The. FUCK! Okay, the cat talks. At this point, after a Chitauri invasion, nothing surprises me..."
Steve found it slightly amusing. "Um, Tony, look at your, um, hands."
Tony obeyed and then screamed, causing the dark gray tabby next to him to jolt awake. "What the fuck?!"
"Did the experiment work?" the dark gray tabby muttered groggily.
Steve sighed. "I guess it did, seeing as how we all got magically turned into cats!"
"WAIT WHAT?!" the dark gray tabby screeched.
"Yeah...I'm Steve, the idiot next to me is Tony," Steve said.
Tony began laughing hysterically. "You're Steve?! Capsicle, why are you blue?"
"Why do you have blue eyes?" Steve retorted.
"I do?" Tony asked, rising to his paws and hurrying over to the water to study his reflection.
"Well, um, I'm Bruce," the dark gray tabby said. "I guess the experiment worked!"
"What is this dark magic?!" a deep voice boomed from behind them.
That, undoubtedly, was Thor. Thor was a tom with long, sand-colored fur.
"Hi, Thor, we're the Avengers and somehow we all got turned into cats! You didn't miss much, no worries, we're only stranded by some random lake!" Tony replied.
"Do I look to be in a gaming mood, talking cat?!" Thor roared.
Tony rolled his eyes. "Look at your reflection, Point Break."
Tony padded over to the last two sleeping cats and violently shook them. "Wake up, Legolas! Rise and shine, sweet, little girl!"
The light brown tom stirred while the reddish-brown she-cat didn't even move. "Go away, Tony," Nat muttered. "For the last time, I am not a sweet little girl. I am neither sweet nor little. If you call me that ever again, you will find out how 'sweet' I'm not."
"You just might want to wake up. Bruce's experiment turned us all into cats," Tony said.
The two assassins' eyes snapped open. "WAIT WHAT?!"
Bruce snickered. "Ha! That's what I said!"
"The bluish gray idiot is Capsicle, the dark gray tabby is Bruce, I'm the genius billionaire playboy philanthropist, and Point Break still has long blonde hair," Tony explained.
"Bruce? How do we turn back into humans now?" Nat demanded.
Bruce shifted awkwardly on his paws. "Um...yeah, about that. I don't know."
