Break soon came and soon after followed the end of the school day. Break was the usual: meet at the little black bench in the centre of the campus, wait our ‘gang’ and then head back to class. Soon Alexis’ boyfriend Andrew came whose ‘best mate’ (as he called him) was the school ‘hotty’ (as he was often referred to), captain of the basketball team, and first and foremost Lucy’s boyfriend, Wade. He wore a litter jacket in the colours of our school, white and blue, and had blond short hair with a pale skin tone. This whole thing may seem very predictable or stereotypical but that was my life-boring.
Andrew was mixed race with dark eyes and a perfect jawline with sharp cheekbones. He too wore the same litter jacket but in a few sizes bigger I suspect…let’s just say that Andrew had visited the local gym a few times more than Wade.
Ansel came with his latest girlfriend, Lily, and friend Charlie. Ansel was tall with dark hair, muscly but not too muscly arms and perfect features; Lily on the other hand was the complete contrast of Ansel. She had bright red hair and was only about five foot with skinny arms and bony legs. Although we broke up about two months ago and he had moved on and I was happy for him, I couldn’t help but feel an instant dislike for Lily. I was unwelcoming and spoke to her only when I was spoken to.
When Ansel arrived we greeted each other as we always did-a kiss on the cheek. We both still fancied the pants of each other but knew that we were just good friends. Lily did a full-teeth-shown smile and I replied with a corner of the lips upturned smile.
My revenge plan was to date Charlie to childishly make Ansel jealous. It wasn’t a plan to try to win him over, but a plan to annoy him for trying to irritate me by bringing Lily into our group; everybody knew that he was just using her to see my reaction to him having a new girlfriend. When I was with them he’d be all over her but I’d seen his behaviour towards her from a distance when they didn’t know that I was watching. They seemed…unhappy, perhaps even bored with each other.
Charlie was tall and dark, just like Ansel, but personality wise completely different. I’d see girl after girl leaving his dorm every night but it was never the same girl. Ansel was different; he’d hold your hand and tell you he loved you and that, to him, you were one of a kind, a glint of perfection in reality.
Lily sat next to Ansel and I sat opposite him in a sandwich next to Charlie and Wade with Alexis and Lucy on the same side as Ansel. Andrew stood at the end of the table with his arm around Alexis.
