Jackie arrived back with our meal and was gratefully thanked by Ansel and me. A few moments of silence passed until Ansel broke it with a question or mere curiosity, “you fancy Charlie, right?” Having just taken a huge gulp of my cappuccino, I nearly choked on a giggle but tried to contain it to see his reaction.

“Kind of.” I replied, naughtily telling a lie. “Really?” He said with a touch of anger but it just made his voice deeper which I secretly liked.

“What is it?” I questioned with a slight grin. Looking slightly amused he said, “I might just have to watch you both.”

Having finished our beverages, Ansel paid and we set off back to our class. He reached his hand towards mine and clasped his around my palm with a tight squeeze.  I couldn’t help but smile.

We made our way back to school. When we reached the corridor around the corner from drama Ansel stopped and with his eyes glued to the carpeted floor muttered something under his breath. “Huh?” I said, having not made out what he said. After a deep breath he stared down at me and said, “She needs to know today.” He was right. I let go of his hand and said, “Let’s get drama out the way and think about telling her later.” With a false smile, he complied and we continued to drama.
