After our meeting we discussed our previous class, gossiped about those in them and watched Ansel kiss with Lily all over the bench we sat at. I needed five minutes away from the scene and made an excuse to leave. I came back soon to see that the making out had stopped, it soon resumed. Then the familiar sound of the school bell rung indicating that the end of lunch was nigh and instructing us to return to our lessons. And we did.
Ansel, Alexis, Lucy, and I walked to drama together with me and Ansel leading and Alexis and Lucy at our tail. The corridors were wide and not too crowded but not deserted either. Ansel and I being at the front alone gave us time to talk. “So how are things going with Lily?” I asked.
“Oh, look who’s suddenly interested,” Ansel laughed and then continued, “it’s okay, I mean she’s nice and all but…” He looked hesitant. “But…” I encouraged. He opened, then closed, and then opened his mouth again and said, “She’s not you.” He looked at me with his big blue eyes but rather than looking at me it was as if he was looking into me, into my soul and deeper.
“Ansel-”
“Can we talk,” he looked behind us, “just you and I.” Lucy and Alexis didn’t hear, they were too busy talking.
“Uh, yeah. At lunch?”
“No. Now.” He pulled me to the side and Lucy and Alexis stared with an eyebrows-furrowed-questioning-kind-of-look. “Tell Mr Kelmekis that we’ll be there in fifteen minutes.” I said. Lucy nodded in return and suspiciously turned but without question, the pair continued to walk to class.
