Chapter 13.1 - The Pirate Festival Day 1

This will be a story arc in parts. So this is Part 13.1 and 13.2 will follow (hopefully) tomorrow, when I'd translated it ^.^
This one will be a little bit hard for our Reader-chan and Law T.T but stay strong, my dear readers! The light at the end of the tunnel is in sight ^^

Was he there?

You quickly looked around the galley before exhaling with a quiet sigh.
Since that evening when Law had admitted that he was "interested" in you, you had tried everything to avoid him...

At first you had moved to the couch. That had amused him.
However, he wasn't in a good mood anymore when you moved into Ikkaku's room. That had led to a heated discussion, but since everyone on board could overhear you two, Law had finally let it go...
Still, you couldn't get rid of the feeling that he had seemed somehow... hurt.

But you shook your head. Why should Law be hurt? Because you turned him down indirectly? He could have anyone, with his looks, his smile (even if it was very rarely seen) and his dangerously charming manner.
Yes, of course you found him attractive... More likely you found him hot as hell. But about you as a couple... that had no future.

He was a pirate; you were a witch. His goal was to become the pirate king, your goal was to protect yours... It just didn't go together.
So you should nip whatever was between you in the bud...

This realization hurt you very much... even if you didn't want to admit it to yourself. You got so used to him. His crooked smile... His strong arms... Those golden eyes that absorbed you whenever he looked at you...

You paused while mopping the floor and looked out into the cloudy sky... It was still early morning and Law was definitely not awake yet...

Of course, you fell in love with him... Of course, that only happened to you! But for him you were probably just an "interesting" distraction...
And that was the other reason why you wanted to move away from him. Once he had you, he would notice how boring you are and just swap you for the next one... and you wouldn't be able to cope with that...

Something you hadn't told anyone here before was that witches and magicians only loved once...

You yourself had long forgotten. But when you were hiding from Law two weeks ago, you had flipped through Miriam's Book of Shadows... There was a whole chapter about love. And then there were your doubts...
If they gave themselves to their loved ones, it was that one and only person. You were not granted to love again as long as the loved one was still alive.

You don't know if this was just nature's cruel joke or if there was a deeper meaning behind this torture, but you hoped that the pain wouldn't be too great if you could give Law the fluff now... If you two had not yet unified. If the magical bond wasn't fully tied yet...

You'd already seen other witches and mages break from it - you definitely didn't want to go through that too.

You briefly examined the galley, nodded contentedly and wanted to quickly disappear down the side passage.

You paused in the doorway and turn around. Penguin stood there and smiled slightly.
