Nate’s POV

My eyes snapped open when I heard a loud voice over the train’s intercom system, “-final destination.” I missed the first thing the man said, but I knew that that was not our stop.

I glanced down at Lilly who was still sleeping on my shoulder peacefully. I gently shook her. She groggily opened her eyes and stared at me, “Oh, hi,” she mumbled before nestling into my shoulder again.

“Lilly, listen. I think we missed our stop. The next stop is the last one.”

“You’re joking right?”

“Do I look like I’m joking?” I asked her, panic written all over my features.

She sat up and looked out the window. It was still dark outside, but the sky was beginning to brighten towards the east. I looked at my watch, “It’s 4:30 am,” I said.

“We were supposed to get off at like eleven last night! Who knows where we are now?”

“There’s no one left to ask,” I said, looking around the empty train cart. “We’ll have to wait until we reach the stop. Then we still have to find the phone, then get home.”

“Bloody hell,” Lilly said angrily, leaning her head against the window.

“Lil, it’ll be fine. At least we have each other right?”

She nodded before I leant over to kiss her. Then all of a sudden, the train lurched to a stop. Lilly and I hit the back of the seats in front of us and our kiss was over.

“Guess this is our stop,” Lilly said, straightening out her tee shirt before standing up and walking off the train.

Lilly’s POV

“We are in the middle of nowhere. Definitely the middle of nowhere,” I said, staring at the bare land around us. Beyond the train station, which was more like a broken down little cottage, there was no civilization. Nate and I tried asking the man working at the train station, but for some reason he spoke only Scottish.

“Agreed. We’re in Narnia,” Nate said.

After wandering around “Narnia,” as Nate and I called it, for an hour, we came to a tiny general store, where a man was sitting inside reading a newspaper.

We ran to the door, but it was locked, which made sense since it was only five thirty in the morning, but the man was right there.

“Please, sir! Are you open?” I cried, desperately.

The man ambled to the door and opened it. “What in the hell are you kids doin’?” he said in an Scottish accent.

“We missed our train stop,” Nate said. “We were supposed to get off in...” Nate turned to me, implying that he forgot the name of our stop.

“Devon County. From tiny little village that isn’t on most maps. You see, we went up to Hereford County for a day and wanted to take the train home, but I don’t know why we ended up going in the other direction.”

“Well darlin’, you’re in North Yorkshire County now. Up near Scotland.”

“North Yorkshire?!” I cried. I took a deep breath in and tried to calm down. Nate’s hand found mine and I grabbed it. “Okay, do you know if there’s a phone anywhere around here?”

“Yeah, back in my store. Come on, I’ll show you kids the way.” The man led us inside the store. It had food, books, shoes, everything.

In the back, there was an old phone. “‘Ere you go,” he said, leaving to return to his newspaper.

I quickly dialed my home phone number, praying someone would pick up.

“Hello?” A tired voice mumbled into the phone.

“Landon?” I asked.

“Lilly? Is that you?”

“Yes! Oh, Landon, you won’t believe what happened-”

On the other line I heard Landon yell “Mum, Dad! It’s Lilly!”

Then I heard my parents voices, “Lilly! We’re so happy to know you’re okay,” my mum said.

Then my dad spoke, “Where are you?” he asked sternly.

I explained the whole story to them, and they even laughed a few times. But they were angry that they had to find a way to get us home. Nate and I had no money or form of communication.

“I’ll drive up and get them,” Landon suggested.

Everyone agreed that Landon would come with Georgina, because she had the best gas mileage.

“Thank you so much, Landon. Nate and I will be waiting at the train station in Lorelton in North Yorkshire County, okay? Come quickly please! Love you. Mum and Dad, I’ll talk to you later. Bye!” I said, hanging up the phone.

I hugged Nate, happy that we could get home.

Nate quickly called his grandparents before we begged the man to give us some food, since we had no money. He caved in and gave us each a bag of chips.

Outside the store, we sat on the steps eating or chips, watching the sun rise. The sky turned pink and orange and then we saw it. It was the most beautiful sunrise I’d ever seen.
