The sun light up the sky with flamingo pinks, sunset oranges, and lavender purples. The sky flooded my room with light. Suddenly the door opened, "Oh you're up, sir." It was my servant Ralph. He was fourteen only four years older than me and very scrawny.
"I suppose" I sighed.
"Well let me help you get ready then." He offered his hand and I took it. It embarrassed me so to have another boy help me dress in the morning.
"I think I'll manage today." I said.
"Oh no, sir not again," he moaned. "We have this conversation every morning. If your father finds out..."
"He won't." I interrupted.
"But he has before and I still remembered the pain it caused me." He countered.
"But Ralph!" I whined.
"No sir, I must follow your father's orders." I muttered curses at him under my breath but nevertheless I held out my arms and let him work. "So, who is this servant girl?" he asked questioningly.
"What?"
"Well sir, one does hear things." he replied.
"Oh, that. Well you see that was a white lie, a simple fib one might say, to keep him from yelling at me for climbing the castle walls." I said.
"So instead you would prefer to have all the servant girls run away from you and close their blinds at night." he chuckled. I grinned broadly.
"You know Ralph I may grow to like you."He started to smile, but then noticed the time.
"Oh no sir you're going to be late for breakfast." He started to rush me and even though I didn't care if I was late or not, I knew the kind of trouble Ralph would be in if I was late and I rushed so he wouldn't get in trouble.
By the time we reached the dining hall Darius, my mother, and my father were already sitting down. I very slowly with dramatic effects walked to my seat. I caught my father's wary eye and sat down. He called for the servants to send out the first course. I quickly noticed that they were only boy servants, probably having to do with last night's incident. My father started to talk and I immediately knew what was coming. He turned to my mother.
"Erin guess who I saw..." he was interrupted by an old man running in. I immediately recognized him as Lord Kerwyn. He had bright blue eyes wise and youthful with a crinkled faced and a long, thin, silver beard. He whispered something to my dad, and my dad turned back to my mother. "I'm sorry Erin I have to go to a meeting with the regents; you may join me if you wish."
Of course," my mother turned to us; she had long blonde hair cascading down her back with slight curls on the ends. She turned and looked at us with her gentle green eyes. "Boys find something to do that keeps you out of trouble." Both my father and mother quickly ventured out of the dining hall leaving Darius and I alone.
