"Before tonight's game, out of respect for last night's tragic events, Sunnyvale will host a candlelight vigil for the victims. All player, cheer and band attendance is mandatory." The PE coach tells the students that are spread through the gym.Bunny and Kate both roll their eyes, looking over at Deena to see her make a finger gun and shooting herself with it, Bunny smiling at her.
As Bunny walks onto the bus later, dressed in her cheer attire, Deena walks behind her dressed in her band outfit.
Bunny walks to the back, smiling at Kate as she sits in the empty seat next to her. Deena walks up to the seat and asks, "Can I sit here?"
"I don't know, can you?" Bunny retorts. The two laughing as the memory of how they met appeared in their heads.
"You were so confident, the whole new girl was really working for you through the ninth grade! Well the first few weeks at least." Deena says, sitting next to her.
"Yeah! That was me trying to act tough seeing as my mom had just dropped me off at some strangers house and said "he's your dad! He doesn't know you're his daughter...Have fun!" Bunny jokes, although Deena could hear how she was still trying to be strong.
That was a rough time in Bunny's life, and it had hurt her in a way that Deena never wanted her to hurt again.
"I remember when you first told me that. That was the night we had our first sleepover! I told you that your mom was an asshole and she didn't deserve someone has great as you," Deena replies, looking down at the girl as she rested her head Deenas shoulder.
"You did, didn't you? You're always there for me Dee, that's one of the things I love about you," Bunny whispers, slowly beginning to doze off, "can you wake me up when we get there? I'm so tired."
"Of course, Bee," Deena says, watching as the girl drifts off into a state of slumber.
She opens the box she had, taking out the headphones and putting them on her head, adjusting Bunny's head so she could hear the music as she slept.
"This isn't how I wanted to be here tonight. I wanted to be here as a fan. Our Sunnyvale Devils and your Shadyside Witches throwing down some good old American football. Instead I find myself here as a husband, a father, as a neighbor. And, yes, mayor of Sunnyvale." The mayor says as he speaks into the microphone from a podium.
"They probably paid him to do this, don't you think Dee-" Bunny cuts herself off, noticing how Deena was no longer paying attention to the speech, instead looking for Sam.
"Yeah, really looks like they give a damn. The only Sunnyvalers who came were the ones who had to. The football team and the cheerleaders." Kate says.
Bunny nods her head, noticing how Deenas mood changed and followed her eyesight, landing on Sam.
Except Sam was with some boy. A football player. Bunny raises her eyebrows, not expecting that at all.
Deena pushes past some people, walking away. Bunny watches as she leaves, looking back at Kate, "Do you mind if I-"
"Of course not! It beats standing here watching these people pretend to be sad anyways." Kate says, giving her a smile.
"Thank you!" Bunny says, rushing off to find Deena. She spots her just as she sits down next to her band hat.
She walks up to her, sitting next to her and grabbing Deenas hand, "Are you okay?"
