While Thorn Covel's name has been attached to the Once Upon A Time cast for 5 years, only last season did we get to experience the depths of her character and Thorn's outshining acting which has left quite a mark on fans. She gained almost 500,000 new followers on Instagram by the time of last season's finale and as of right now her followers have only been increasing from the 950 K mark. The sixteen year old played Jessica Ryes, a shy- fairytale obsessed teenager that fans have come to know and love.
Thorn first made an appearance in Once Upon A Time in the season 2 finale and has been accompanying Henry Mills ( Jared S. Gilmore ) in their usual Storybrooke adventures since. Even though Jessica Ryes doesn't seem to have any actual relations to the main characters and was just a 12 year old orphan girl who got trapped in the curse, she still has managed to keep the viewers interested, when asked Thorn said' "I believe Jessica comes off as a headstrong shy girl and an overall relatable character. She is powerless and alone but still manages to make everyone around her believe how much willing she is to do the right thing." Thorn even added how she relates to Jessica. "Jessica's love for happily ever afters and FairlyTales is one that I share. She was all in all very fun to play and I am very sad to be saying goodbye to her."
Thorn is mainly know for her role as young Cinderella on Netflix's original If The Shoe Fits, as well as Linda Reid in MTV's Sweet/ Vicious, River Jones in Disney's Girl Meets World, and childhood appearances as Olivia Swanson in Gilmore Girls and Hannah White in Community. She is no stranger to the spotlight and we're sad to say she'll be leaving the Once Upon A Time world behind.
In an interview on Tuesday with WIRED she answers the questions of her leaving with quite the grace. She said, "Even though Jessica has become part of me and I will miss her dearly but I think it's time to move on from a role I'd been playing since I was 12. I am very thankful for the cast and crew to allow me the space to grow and explore other roles." She was clear that the cast was not firing her, nor was she quitting but the future of her plans has left us stunned. "I'm currently not working on any future projects and just taking time to enjoy high school as a Junior." Thorn has for the past 8 years been continuously working on one project or the other. The media has never really seen her put importance to school or her studies, has her time come to end before it even started?
Scandalous canards on Instagram is that the absence of of a mother and the under age drinking is finally catching up to her and though no proof has been met the speculation. The attention Thorn Convel receives exceeds the popularity at all the actors her age.
Even though we believe she could've cracked open the the future of Hollywood, alas she has stepped aside. We only wish that Constance Billard, a private school in Manhattan is ready for her.
