My time at Hogwarts would have made Lucius Malfoy physically ill. Actually I know it did.
The lovely letter I received from my parents congratulating me for getting into Gryffindor and the contradictory letter from my grandad saying I'm sure it's all your parents doing said as much. I always thought that Narcissa would've been happy for me, in the rare moments that we were away from Lucius' gaze and manipulation she always did try and tell us that all of the things he said weren't true. Narcissa was always kinder than him. Even though her sister was so devoted to you know who, I always thought that Narcissa did what she needed to do for her family. When Draco and I stopped talking I always hoped that her remembered what she's said.
"Hmmm, you are difficult." The sorting hat shouted. " You have the courage of a lion yet you did not act. Your cunning and you know it. Hard work doesn't shy you away you push forward. Planning you have everything planned more than once." I felt the eyes of everyone in hall on me. Only Harry Potter had had this much deliberation, the hat barely touched Dracos head before it decreed, "Slytherin!" I could feel his eyes on me. And I could feel his fear.
" Well you will do in all of the houses. Best you will do in.... Gryffindor!"The overwhelming shouts from the long table, populated by several red heads, put me at ease. But I could see Dracos disappointment and sadness about her new house. I wonder if he had thought they could've been friends again if she'd become a Slytherin. It would've made up in a way in Lucius's eyes. My grandparents were both Slytherins, my mother was questioned over before the hat decided on Ravenclaw. My grandmother was happy. She always knew my mum was smart, my grandad however was not. My father was a Ravenclaw too. Although to be honest, I think both of them could've been Gryffindor. I think the sorting hat knew with my mum that something would happen if she'd been put there.
And so, I was a Gryffindor. I sat myself down next to the other young students. Introducing myself " Hello, my name's Delilah. What about you?" I breathed a sigh of relief when Hermione rushed out. " I'm Hermione Granger. Pleasure to meet you!"
I immediately knew that if all else failed I could always count on her somehow. "Harry Potter" the dark haired boy stuck his hand out. I instantly remembered the story. I clasped his hand and shook it firmly," lovely to meet you Harry". The last boy my age was Ron. Who simply smiled through the food he was stuffing down. We all laughed and settled in for the years ahead. In the few hours later I found out that Hermione knew even more than me about Hogwarts and to be fair witchcraft. I knew a few spells that my parents had taught me in secret. But this girl knew at least 50 and could do half of them already. My competition was clear! I was roomed with Hermione we were able to have a room for four between us, god knows we needed it with all of her books.
As we fell asleep I couldn't help but think what would happen in the next year. Would I ever speak to Draco again? Would my grandparents speak to me again? I had no idea and hated it.
