We both hid behind the trees, watching Axel and Valeria get out of a green truck. The scent of tickled my nostrils. Valeria kissed Axel. So, I was right. Except her mouth was full of slime instead dirt.
Axel slid his hands down her ass. He smirked down at her. I sighed. Boone groaned. We should've followed Maula instead.
"What the hell was that?" Valeria asked, turning around.
Axel laughed. "That's nothing. Let's go in the house."
"It's not nothing. I heard someone groan."
"I didn't hear anything. You must have imagined it."
"I know what I heard. But whatever."
They entered the small blue house. Boone and I walked past the trees and hid in the bushes by the truck. The window was opened. Yes! We didn't have to sneak into the house!
The light of the full moon reflected off the windows of the truck. It was quiet. Until, the tv was turned on. Footsteps passed the window.
"Hey, Ria!" Maula yelled.
Valeria squealed. "Hey, girl!"
"How you doin'?"
"Me and Axel just went on our first date. And I got paid for my article!"
"That's great! I'm so proud of you!"
Valeria squealed again. She got paid to write a whole page of bullshit? I thought journalism was supposed to be unbiased. Someone should take away her pen.
Forever. Fuck the Woods family. And fuck her too.
Anyway, Boone walked around the truck and sniffed the tires. He jumped into the back of the truck and sniffed something in there too. He came back over here. I looked at him blankly. If I had eyebrows, I would've raised them.
"What?" Boone asked.
I glanced at the truck. "You just sniffed the truck for no reason."
"Wrong. I sniffed it because I was trying to find traces of a weapon."
"And?"
"I found nothing."
"Damn."
The best thing about being a werewolf was being able to talk without moving my mouth. This time, our conversation was telepathic. So, no one heard us.
The weapon was probably in the house somewhere. But we couldn't sneak in there without getting caught. It sounded too risky.
I looked through the window. No one was in the living room. The tv was still on. An episode of 'Untold Stories in the ER' was on.
"I have an idea," Boone whispered.
I looked at him. "What is it?"
"We should go to the back. Just to hear them confess."
"That's a good idea. Come on."
We walked to the back of the house. The blinds on the windows were open. Axel took a black pistol out of his blue jeans. He put it under his white pillow. Boone chuckled.
"What's so funny?" I asked.
Boone looked at me blankly. "We both know that gun will just be a lump under his pillow that he'll forget about."
"You've got a point."
"I know I do."
We knew Axel was definitely a suspect. Who else would've wanted to shoot me and Candy? He just needed to confess.
This made perfect sense.
Axel turned off the lights in the room. We walked to the other side of the house. The window was covered with gray curtains. So, there was no way we could see if Maula had a weapon too.
We walked away from the house. No one else was outside. All I heard was crickets and our paws on the street.
A few cars drove past us as we left Axel and Maula's neighborhood. I heard howling when we got close to my house. We stopped in our tracks. There were five red wolves standing in my backyard.
I couldn't believe this.
The red wolves approached us. My heart raced. I'd be smiling if I wasn't in wolf form.
The wolf in the front stared at me. "You remind me of someone."
I was speechless. This wolf had the same voice as Maplé. There was no way I could lie my way out of this. I already did that at the party.
She laughed without opening her mouth. The wolf behind her laughed too. They shared a blank glance before turning their attention back to me. I stayed silent.
"Who?" Boone asked.
Maplé laughed again. "This guy. You probably know him. His name is Brandon."
"I do know him. That's my brother."
