Kadence's Point Of View
We drove up to my house. I'm already scared of what she will do about the fight, not to mention me calling the one guy she will never tell me about and bringing him home to her. I'm terrified. I walked inside, my maybe dad following behind me.
"Oh you are so dea-" Mom said, stoping when she sees Dean. She looks at him in disbelief. "Kadence, go to your room, I'll deal with you later. Dean, what are you doing here? And with my daughter?" Mom said, turning her attention to him. I sat in my room with the door cracked so that I could hear perfectly.
"Why are you here?" She asked him.
"Is Kadence mine?" He asked.
"Why are you here?" She repeated.
"Kadence called me. Is she mine?" He answered her question and then repeated his.
"Kadence called you? How did she.. she saw the picture and got your number from my phone. That sneaky kid." She said.
"Is she mine? She stated some pretty interesting and factual proof that she is mine. Is she mine?" He asked again.
"Dean.." mom sighed.
"Is Kadence mine?" He asked again.
"Yes." Mom sighed.
"Why didn't you tell me? Don't you think I would've wanted to know if I had a kid?" He asked.
"I don't know. I guess I didn't tell you because you wouldn't have stayed anyway." Mom raised her voice.
"You kept it from me because It wouldn't have made me stay? That shouldn't have had anything to do with it. She blames herself for her not having a father. Maybe I wouldn't have been the best at parenting or maybe I wouldn't have been here all the time but I would have wanted to know." He raised his voice at her a little since she did but he quieted back down at the next thing he said. "She would have wanted to know before now."
"So I'm a terrible mom now?" Mom asked.
"No. That's not what I said at all. She seems like an amazing kid." Dean said.
Mom whispered to him. "She has her problems. She gets into fights, she has smart comebacks, and she has terrible grades. Ya know.. she acts just like you." I heard mom smile, she definitely had tears in her eyes.
"She's absolutely beautiful." He smiled. "Her brown curly hair looks similar to yours."
"And her beautiful green eyes definitely come from you." Mom said. "She may have a darker skin tone and curly hair like me but other then that, she's all you. I definitely have trouble with her though." She giggled. "I've been to the school countless times for many different reasons. Stressful but I love her. So much." She laughed a little bit and dad asked what she replied with. "We are damn good at fighting."
I whisper to myself mostly. "I love you."
It was about an hour before they called for me, surprisingly Dean called me into the room. I got up from my spot beside the door and walked in. "So?"
"Sit down." Mom patted the spot in between them and I sat down there. "Dean is your real father. It's hard to deny it." Mom said with a sad smile. "Baby, the reason I didn't want to tell you about him is because I didn't want you to go and look for him." She chuckled a little. "It seems you did that anyway. I didn't want to think about him because I have Tray. I already have enough trouble forgetting him because you look and act just like him. He wasn't going to come back if he knew about you because he couldn't so I didn't bother with it. It was wrong and I know that. I want you to understand that it wasn't his fault or your fault you didn't have him in your life, it's mine for not telling him."
