"Day three is a go." I muttered, securing the lid on the disposable coffee cup, which I'd filled with hot cocoa. I felt a little silly, doing this, but I'd set my mind to it, and I wasn't going to back down.
I didn't know why I wanted to do this really, it just felt right. Hell, I didn't even know if he liked hot cocoa, but I did know that it got cold out there sometimes, and it was a hot drink to warm his bones.
I hung my little sign on my front door. It read, "Out to graze!!" in brightly colored comic sans, with a little sheep wearing a spacesuit helmet on it. I'm sure anyone can guess where it came from.
After making sure it was hung straight I set off, cup in hand, in hopes of meeting the mystery man.
I felt myself relax once I got farther away from Starrin, the quiet releasing the tension I always seemed to feel in the bustling town. I had always enjoyed the more remote places around here, places where there wasn't the incessant drone of voices, and there were no structures to block the neverending horizon.
I had stopped paying attention to my surroundings, and I suddenly came to, discovering that I was already quite near my destination. After taking a moment to gather my thoughts, I kept walking, now alert and on the lookout for my target.
"There you are," I whispered. "Finally."
And there he was, seated in his usual spot. He'd been absent the last two times I'd tried to do this, so I couldn't help but feel a sense of accomplishment finding him here today. It only lasted for a moment though, for it was quickly replaced with anxiety. This was a stranger, after all.
And I was a stranger to him. I knew full well that I couldn't take the blow to my self-image if he refused it, even knowing that I'm a stranger to him. I took a deep breath, and approached him.
I was hardly making a sound, but he noticed me before I got close, and jumped to his feet, whirling around and startling me. I almost dropped the cup.
Neither of us spoke for a second, eyes locked, until I, out of awkwardness, thrust the cup in his direction.
"Here," I said, "it's for you."
After at least three seconds, he reached out and wordlessly took the cup from where I held it at arm's length. He looked down at it, then back up at me.
"Is it poison?"
"W-what? No!" The question shouldn't have caught me off guard, but I was startled by it anyway. "It's hot cocoa. And why would I poison you? I don't even know who you are."
"Why would you not poison me?" He countered, "You don't even know who I am."
I paused. He had a point.
"W-well!! I!! I didn't put poison in it!! I just wanted to do something nice!! 'Cause you're always out here and… it gets cold… "
I mumbled the last part, embarrassment heating my face.
"Whatever!! You don't have to drink it! If you don't want to! I- Goodbye!!"
At that, I turned and walked away as quickly as I could without running. I couldn't believe that I'd done such a silly thing. I truly felt like an idiot. Of course he was gonna think something was up with it! What kind of idiot wouldn't think of that!
I returned home quickly, bringing in my sign and immediately face-planting into the couch cushions.
…
…
Knocking on my door.
I glanced at my phone to see that hours had passed. Great.
I got up, stretching. My back, legs and neck all popped. I opened the door to see Sans there, with Frisk and Toriel behind him.
"Jeez, (Y/N), I could hear that from out here." His ever-present smile was topped by slightly scrunched eyes, showing his discomfort.
I laughed. "I accidentally fell asleep on the couch. My bones woulda ached later if I hadn't."
"My bones are gonna ache after hearin' you crack like a glowstick." On cue, Frisk pulled a glowstick out of their pocket and cracked it. We all had a good laugh.
"Anyway, what's got y'all over here? Special occasion?" Cue panic. "I didn't forget something did I?"
Toriel reached out and patted my head gently. "No dear, nothing like that, do not worry. There is going to be a meteor shower in a little while, and we wanted to see if you would like to tag along."
I smiled sheepishly. "Oh yeah, that sounds great! I'd love to come."
That happened a lot. The fact that I had no memory of my past unsettled me a little bit. It wasn't really that much of a problem (that I knew of) but it did make me a bit anxious about forgetting things. Just a bit.
I grabbed my jacket off the hook, (I'd forgotten it earlier,) and we went out to the usual stargazing spot. Papyrus was already there, along with Alphys, Undyne, (who was currently lifting one of each of the former on each arm,) Blooky, and Mettaton.
Frisk immediately ran to MTT, ("TON-TON!!") who scooped them up into his arms. ("Hello Darling!") I couldn't help but smile. We all settled in for the show, (no, not you Ton-ton) and I forgot about the embarrassing incident from earlier in the day.
Later, once the meteor shower had ended, and Frisk had fallen asleep in Papyrus's arms, everyone headed home for the night. All in all, it had been a good day, but I was drained nevertheless. I loved my friends to death and back, but I was more than ready for a recharge by the time I got home. I slept well that night.
Yayyy Chapter 1! I like the ideas I've got for this story (which are small in number rn, but still!). I don't actually know a lot about Outertale though, so if I say something terribly incorrect please let me know!
Unrelated to the story, but Outertale Grillby is literally so pretty! I don't like picking favourites buut.... I have a favourite Grillby. Lol.
Love, Kitti <3
