Chapter Four: Letter
AFTER 'That day' (Liana preferred to Nick's confrontation as 'That day'), Liana ignored him. Not that she intended to ignore him. It is just that she was afraid to face him.
Days passed by in a breeze. She barely noticed that she hasn't cut her bangs for so long. She could probably tie it with the rest of her hair in a ponytail or a bun, which is a good thing considering the weather, but she's afraid that a few people might recognize her.
She was trying to conceal her real identity to hide from someone. She needed to.
Nick entered the restaurant and she just ignored him while wiping the tables. She doesn't have the courage to give him her love letters, and it pains her to do so.
She have always admired him but now, she can't even face the man. The shame of being caught as a liar could make one's pride shatter. She has her reasons.
Aling Marites called Liana and pulled the hem of her gray polo shirt— their uniform on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
Aling Marites pulled her to sit down on the ground and tied her hair, even her bangs, properly in a bun, uncovering her eyes. Aling Marites gasped at the sight of her irises.
"Green ang mata mo?"
Her cheeks reddened, at the same time, she snapped. Nakalimutan niyang suotin ang contact lenses niya.
"Ang ganda-ganda mo palang bata ka!"
Her cheeks burned as Aling Marites complimented her.
Aling Marites grabbed something from her purse and it was lipstick.
"Hindi na ho kailangan!" Tumayo siya. She's really not a fan of lipstick. She could tolerate a liptint— which she uses on a daily basis— but not lipstick. The greasy feeling of it is a big, capitalized 'NO!'.
"Liana."
Nick's voice called her from behind and she immediately turned around. Liana could've sworn she caught him off-guard. He stared at her, mostly to her eyes, for five seconds before motioning her to follow him. She obliged. Her co-workers might notice...
"Can you clean the HQ today? I'll pay you triple for the inconvenience. The cleaning lady suddenly caught a fever."
"Okay lang."
She followed him from behind until they reached his Range Rover. She was about to head to the passenger seat when Nick quickly walked to the car first and opened it for her.
Liana blinked for a moment with confusion, her eyes obviously rounded because of shock.
Suddenly, she's aware of her surroundings and the car felt so small for the both of them. Liana gulped as her awareness heightened.
She fastened her seatbelt but she caught a glimpse of her reflection on the car window.
He saw it. Her eyes. That's the reason why he looked like he froze earlier. It must have been quite a shock.
She pulled the scrunchie from tying her hair and stuffed it in one of her pockets. She let out a sigh.
