It was a day like any other, the sun was shining brightly, something I hated to a certain extent since I could not get used to so much luminosity. I was on my way to the agency, with my new novel in my hands, ready to be read by my friend. Suddenly, halfway there, I spotted a rather large group of children, going in and out everywhere from a kind of candy store, adorned with all sorts of lively and cheerful decorations. I figured Rampo-kun would love them, so I had the great idea of sneaking into the chaotic atmosphere. However, it was in vain; just as I was about to cross the threshold of the door, a brat stood in front of me with a serious expression on her face, and asked me:

- Buying chocolate for your girlfriend? Don't you know that children come first?

Hearing those words, I rushed to deny any doubts I had and clear up any suspicions, however, my speech was cut off by a scream of delight from the girl, seeing Carl, perched on top of my head.
As expected, to save me, my dear friend threw himself on top of the little girl and she began to loudly announce what she held in her arms; to which the rest of the surrounding children gathered around her. I looked at poor Carl - had I been in his place I would have gone mad in less than a minute - and promised myself to get out of there with something for him too.
A few minutes later I finally managed - after multiple attempts - to leave the room with Carl.
I've always found it curious to give candy to someone you're dating, but does that indicate that you can only give it to the person you're attracted to? Maybe Rampo-kun thinks I'm giving it to him for that reason?
Oh, no, surely he doesn't think that; or so I hope.    The remorse was eating me up inside. I was walking quickly with my head down, thinking about what to do, when I decided to stop and turn around. However, just as I was about to do so, I bumped into someone.
I quickly excused myself and looked up. Before me stood a young man of 22 years old, with green eyes and a charming smile.

- Oh, Poe-kun! I was just thinking of you. Come with me to the office, everyone has taken the day off today so I thought I'd visit you and see how you're doing with the novel, although I see you've already finished it. - he said smiling broadly.
My heart stopped for a moment, my eyes were fixed on that expression of joy and my cheeks flushed slightly.

I nodded and then he grabbed me by the dark jacket I was wearing and led me into the office; where, upon arrival, he grabbed a chair and positioned it next to a second one, which was in front of his desk.    He sat down and successively instructed me to do the same. As I did so I swallowed saliva and said:

- Rampo-kun...I brought you sweets, I hope you like them and well I-.

To which he interrupted me by taking my novel and the bag of candy out of my hands. Even so, -how strange and curious of him- instead of going straight to the bag, he decided to put on his glasses and dive into the book.
This was really fascinating to me, since, knowing Rampo-kun well, he would never do such barbarism. Nothing and no one is more important than his candy, so why my novel? This really made me think for a long eternity.
