Blood

My breathing was even but my hands were clenched in fists. The metal of the surgical table was freezing against the blazing heat of my skin.
"Now Raven you know the words. We are about to make the third incision." The doctors informed me.
I mearly nodded and closed my eyes. This was the third experiment today. And the killer thing is I still had conditioning after this. I felt the knife press against the skin right below my rib cage. Bitting my lip, my breath hitched and I tried not to scream. I will not give in. I will not give in. Not only were they using me for research purposes, but they also wanted to see how long it would take me to break. How long it would take for me to beg for morphine.

Opening my eyes I turned my head to the side to look at the scientists. Safe behind the glass while they held the controls to a machine that cuts me open. So weak. I turned my focus back up to the equipment. I remember my first experiment. I didn't know what was going on. Like they expected, I freaked out. What they didn't expect me to do was break the machine. They hadn't even trained me yet. I just broke it. Then that's why they put restraints on me, basically everywhere I go. My thoughts break when I start to feel warm liquid run down my side. Some of it has escaped the suction. That rarely ever happens. I don't pay it any mind. Losing blood isn't that big a deal. Right?

The machine finishes the final stitch and when my restraints are released I sit up and look at my scars. You can beraly see the stitching it's so small.
"Please proceed to the door and wait for the guard to cuff you. You have a few minutes before conditioning with the rest of the teens in your month." One scientist said.
I nod and stand up. I've long gotten over the ridiculously small amount of clothing they allow us to wear. The males all wear just gym shorts and girls wear a white cloth that just covers our chests and hooks in the back with white spandex like shorts. It's to make testing easier. Yay us. I walk over to the door and two cuffs are placed around my wrists. A chain is connected to them and I'm pulled to the training room where the others are waiting for it to begin. The guard unlocks me and gives me a shove forward. I fall to the floor. Ok so maybe I did lose a little too much blood from that last cut. My friend runs over to me and helps me to a table where she has snuck some food to help me get back in the game.
"Thanks, but what the hell is wrong with you?!" I whisper yell, "you know they will punish you if they find out you did this for me."
"I know. But I also know they almost bled you dry like they always do." She says shoving food into my mouth before I can talk back.
I chew my food quickly before instructor Mike comes in. When he does I've long finished it. He looks around the room scanning over us. He presses a few buttons and the room transforms into an obstacle course.
"Everyone come get your vitals patches!" He yells.
We all stand up and shuffle into a somewhat orderly line. Someone pushes past me and I start to fall slightly. Before I have time to catch myself, two semi-muscular arms surround me. I look up and stare right into the eyes of Robin. His hair was a blondish color and was cut short like the other boys, but slightly longer. His features sharp and loud with a soft curve to them. His eyes were the most amazing part of all. They were a pale icy blue with a hint of green in them and white lines dotted the iris. His build was normal. Not exactly rippling like most girls fantasized about, but enough muscle to show through. He was at least a head taller than me. I must look so plain to him. The only feature really standing out would be my blazing sapphire blue eyes. A small blush rose to my cheeks when I realized I had been staring.
"I'm sorry." He mumbled pulling me upright.
"It's fine." I whispered back.
He finally released me and went on his way not looking back. Angel nudged me in my side.
"What the hell was that?" She asked me.
"I don't know." I said back in a daze.
"Raven pay attention!" Mike yelled at me.
I looked forward and saw that it was my turn to go already. I grabbed my vitals patch and placed it over my heart. Running forward I jumped and grabbed the bar, swinging my body up, narrowly avoiding the blades that swirled centimeters below me. I climbed higher before sliding down a pole and rolling under an arch before standing and flipping back and pushing off the wall, before springing up to grab a loop on the next wall. I hopped from wall to wall till I reached the end where I slid down then ran and did flips trying not to touch the lazers that threatened to burn my skin off.

Apon reaching the end of the course my breathing was rigid and sweat rolled down my skin. Some of the long raven black hair I had put into a braid had managed to escape, sticking to me like second skin. I was leaned over slightly with my hands on my knees.
"Move it Raven!" Mike shouted.
I stood up and walked back to the rest area.
"Here." Angel says throwing me a bottle of water.
"Thanks."
I gulp it down and look up at her. She really is beautiful. Named angel for her silky blond hair, bright sky blue eyes, and pale skin. She's only a few days younger than me. But aside from our drastically different features, we were like twins. I smiled up at her and she smiled back, then a worried expression crossed her face. I stood up.
"What is it? What's wrong?" I asked.
I almost collapsed. Standing up was not a good idea. One hand went to my stomach and the other to my head. Dark spots swam in my vision and the world became blurry. Everything started spinning.
"Raven!" She yelled.
I immediately sat back down. Something on my hand was wet. What could possibly be wet? I looked down at my hand. Red covered my skin and turned my shorts a pinkish color.

Blood

"Robin pay attention!" We heard Mike yell. "Angel has the situation covered! Focus!"
I looked up and saw Robin staring at me, concern filling his eyes. He wasn't moving. I smiled at him and nodded to signify that I was fine. When I clearly wasn't. He looked torn but finally just continued. Angel had been busy wrapping a gauze bandage around me when Robin finished.
"Good you're done. I need you to carry her to the infirmary for me." Angel said.
He simply nodded and picked me up, carrying me out of the training room.
"I'm fine Robin." I said while resting my head on his chest.
I felt loopy, like a drunk. he simply scoffed at me.
"Why would you insist on pushing yourself like this right after a procedure? You should have used a safe word to tell them that you need rest." He said.
He sounded irritated, mad, and concerned.
"I have to keep my rank up. Or I'll be killed like the others." I said.
We all have levels. If you don't move up in time then they kill you. They haven't told us how or what they do to us but we just know that you die. He sighed.
"Your rank won't drop just because you miss one day."
"Yes it will."
"No it won't."
"Yes it will."
We reached the infirmary and he laid me down on a table.
"Hm this looks familiar." I said jokingly.
He chuckled lightly and shook his head as he searched the draws for a needle and thread. No luck. So we had no choice but to use the machine. I held still so that he could sew me up.
"Thanks." I mumbled.
"No problem." He said.
Then he walked away without looking back. Geez. I realize he turns 16 tomorrow but getting your match can't be that bad. Here in this little 'sub' society they match us together with rejects in other facility's or someone in our own. Though getting a match in your own facility is very rare. Well you get your match when you turn 16. I turn 16 a week after him. I mean it can't be that bad.

Ok so if you have gotten this far thank you for giving my book a try. I don't think I'm going to be doing any sex in this book. I don't know. I might. But I most likely won't.

Please keep reading!
