daniel wasn't really sure what he was supposed to do. he hadn't planned for this because it was something he thought would happen. it wasn't part of the arrangement.

he tried to brush it off his mind for the whole ride to rose's apartment but it was still there, in the back of his mind.

"rose~" he called out in a sing songy voice, "lemme see your rat."

"it's a mouse!" she yelled and he followed her voice to her room.

"same thing," he rolled his eyes, "now give him to me."

she sighed, shaking her head but handed the animal to him.

"awww, he's adorable."

"his name is bucky," she grinned.

he blinked and let out a heavy sigh. "you have an obsession," he stated leaving no room for arguments.

she shrugged. "it fits him."

"he doesn't have a metal arm."

"because he's a white mouse," he stared at her blankly.

"y'know, white wolf, white mouse."

"im gonna leave," he said but made no move to leave. "so.. what's up? we haven't talked much lately."

i wonder whose fault that is she thought.

"finals are coming up next month so i really need to study," rose groaned, flopping on her bed.

"don't worry, you're gonna do great. you're gonna be the best programmer ive ever met," he said.

"i'm the only programmer you've ever met," she dead panned.

"oh yeaa- you're still gonna do great," he kissed her cheek and her heart stopped.

she felt her face getting hot, "t- thanks," she cleared her throat, awkwardly.

unbeknownst to her, daniel was having the same reaction. if she had just looked at him she would have seen how red his face was.

oh, how oblivious were they? love worked in the strangest ways.
