September 1, 2010

I woke up in my bed at our Scotland home, like it was any other morning. It wasn't until I looked over at my Quidditch Stars of the 2009-2010 Season calendar that I fully realized what day it was; it was my first day at Hogwarts! I knew all about the incredible things that happened there. My mum met her best friends, and ultimately her soulmate there. My dad was the same way.

But then there was my cousin, Teddy. His parents... they died there, as did two of my mum's best friends, and Victoire Weasley's uncle Fred. My mother was bullied there. Teddy's father, Uncle Remus, whose friend that he met there, betrayed all of his friends. Several terrible things had happened on Hogwarts soil.

But then again, those things all happened as a result of Voldemort, who has been dead and gone for longer than I've been alive. (Although, in a way, I was at the Battle of Hogwarts...) The world was different with him gone. Hogwarts would be safe with him dead, and I wouldn't have to worry about murder or betrayal or anything like that.

As I put on my favorite Enchanted t-shirt, I began to wonder about my time at Hogwarts. What house would I be in? What would my friends be like? Would I find a lover there, just like my parents did? Would I be able to go on adventures? I couldn't help but wonder if I would die there, although I shook that thought away like the first time while I put my curly dark brown hair into a high ponytail.

Once I was changed, I left my room and went to the dining room for breakfast. My mother, who I greatly respect, had already prepared it.

But seriously, mad respect to my mum. She was attacked by Fenrir Greyback at only four, because her dad was muggleborn, and she lived. She dealt with the harassment and isolation that came with being a werewolf. She dealt with the losses of two of her best friends, her father, her sister, her brother-in-law, and others she trusted. And that woman also fought in the Battle of Hogwarts while pregnant. (Although she didn't know it yet, I was definitely there). My mum is a living legend.

My father sat at the table beside my mother's usual seat. When he was my age and a bit older, the man was obsessed with Quidditch. He still is, but... less so. I think my brother and I mellowed him out a little. He used to be willing to die for Quidditch (and no, I am not exaggerating). He fell in love with my mum because of Quidditch. When things got hard for her, he helped out in any way he could. Nowadays, he looks out for the whole family.

And my little brother, Ben, was already most of the way done with his waffle. He was seven years old, and he'd inherited blue eyes from my mum. His hair was a dark blond, but mostly straight. I could vaguely remember when I was three, and my mum told me I was going to have a younger sibling. It was around a month after my mum had helped England reach a Quidditch World Cup victory against Scotland (which my dad was playing keeper for). My toddler self was unhappy. But I love him now.

Knowing it would be delicious, I began to eat my waffle breakfast with strawberries on the side. Maple syrup was poured on top of my waffle already, since my mum knew I would want it. Indeed, the waffle was delicious. It was the perfect amount of sweet, not overboard or lacking. Once I finished my food, I drank a glass of milk, and I cleaned the dishes I'd used.

I returned to my room to finish packing for Hogwarts. It was weird to think that I wouldn't see my parents again until December after today. But then again, I'd be safe with the professors at Hogwarts, and my friends there as well. I promised myself I'd write my parents back immediately every time I receive a letter from them. That would be how I could keep in touch with them.

After I finished packing, I went into the living room, and my entire family linked arms. Suddenly, I felt as if I was being hurled around. The next thing I knew was that I was in an alley by King's Cross Station. "Accio Lauren's things," my mother cast. Immediately, my trunk appeared in front of me. The magic of it made a smile appear on my face.
