****
It was May 26  year 2021. The sun had just set and night had fallen on us like usual but this was no normal day. It was said that we'd have a bloodmoon. In my book The Race Against the Night, Blood moon meant nothing but trouble. Right now we were about to face the same fate.

All the 'Animals, Creatures, beings ' we thought weren't real, well guess what they were real very real, they came out of nowhere and started attacking the people, they started attacking us, at first I thought I was hallucinating, seeing things that weren't there, Dinosaurs,Dragons, Vampires, but how could this be, how could fictional beings be real. If what I had read in the book true, then I knew they had one mission, to kill us all.

Racing back home at lightning speed, I took my daughter with me, we quickly hid in the basement, and waited till morning. Hoping we won't find them there and to our luck we didn't.

With no time to waste I quickly packed our bags, stuffed them with food and warm clothes. Grabbing my daughter with me, we went outside to the car, with the hope that it did not get destroyed.

The sight that greeted me was horrific, dead bodies lay on the street like confetti. Those who managed to hide till the creatures disappeared were by their loved one, crying their souls out.

Quickly covering my daughters eyes, I lead us to the car, buckled her in the seat, got into the driver's seat and sped off.

*****

Having long ditched the car since we ran out of gas, I was carry my daughter on my back along with our 3 backpacks. We had to lighten the load with no car and our feet could only carry us a short distance with all the luggage.

A store appears at the end of the street and I breath a sigh of relief, casting my eyes west, I see the sun is about to set. I start sprinting headed towards the store I knew once I got there I'll be safe for the night, it seems the sun is setting with every passing minute. picking up more speed, at this point I'm racing against the sun because if I don't make it in time we're dead meat.

We were so close yet so far, the sun had just set and chaos began for the creatures were out to kill. Dropping the bags I ran with all my might as a dinosaur started stomping on  where I was and I...bearly making it out under his paw.

If we got a simple scratch, burn or drool then by the next full moon we were doom.

Making inside the store having successfully dodge all those savages out there.we stayed there all night till the break of dawn, as we collected  all the left over food from every isle, lord knows we'd need it, cause the place was going to have famine sooner or later.

As we were about to leave we saw a figure crotched down by the corner of the till, making my way down there I found a boy, who's roughly my daughter's age crying. Picking him up I decided to take him with me.

*****

Looking up, I saw a dragon, last I checked the sun had not set. dragging the kids along with me we made a run for it as the dragon sought to burn everything in sight.

Night had fallen upon and we were now wearing night vision goggles, if we wanted to make it we'd have to travel at night, dodging the creatures whenever we came across them.

It seems like my predictions was all wrong, the full moon was tonight. Turning back to the kids I found my daughter laying in the ground groaning. Having checked what was wrong with her. She had a scratch, well she was as good as dead. Their scratches were deadly, a scratch equals incurable disease, disease meant death.

Kissing her forhead and grabbing her backpack, rising to my feet I grabbed the boys hand and we continued leaving her behind.

"I said look at me dammit"

He was shaking now, I assume I was scaring him but he had to understand dow serious this is.

"If you don't want to end up dead, then you'll do everything I tell you to do. Now run head towards the gate and don't stop running. "

He did as I said and took off running, while I stayed behind, now I wasn't going to act all might because I was only stalling, diverting their attention from the boy until he made it. I failed my child I wasn't about to fail another.

Assuming he was much closer to the main gate, I also took off running, dodging their attacks, I'd fell and quickly picked myself up , my feet were swollen and I was tired but I still pressed on. I wasn't gonna die, not like this. Making it inside the gates someone quickly closed it behind me.

As I stood there bewildered, turning back to see all the people who'd managed to make it here alive.

We may have made it to the north but It wasn't the end, this war wasn't over, they were still  out there roaming our land. Until the next blood moon for now we were safe.

THE END!
