Valerie had headed back to her car to place all her shopping bags away as the mall began closing. She had stayed in the mall for the rest of the day, entertaining Heather and making her day more tolerable.

Valerie walked back into the mall and headed straight to the book store.

"Attention, shoppers. The shadyside Mall is now closed." Phil said over to speakers. Phil hated his job as much as Valerie hated sunnysiders.

"Hey, love." Valerie said just as Heather switched off the lights in the store, causing the teen to spin round and stop her dancing to the music over the speakers.

"Hey, darling." She smiled just as the phone started ringing. Heather sighed and went over to the phone to answer it.

"Hello, this is B. Dalton's. We're closed." Heather spoke in a bored tone as Valerie sat on the counter. She had never been in the mall at night before.

"Ok, since when do you work late?" Ryan asked over the phone, his voice could be heard as Valerie rested her head on Heather's shoulder.

"Since my mom used her last pay check on scratch tickets. Instead of the gas bill." Heather replied without missing a beat, causing Valerie to look up at her. She admired Heather for wanting to help pay the bills.

Heather wore a confused expression as the line went dead. "Hello?" She asked, "Ryan? Hello?"

"He's probably messing with you." Valerie told her as Heather slammed down the phone.
