Welcome to your First Year of Hogwarts (On Hold)

Chapter 1

"Mom! Dad!" you yell as you run down the steps and into the kitchen; your mom is preparing your eleventh birthday cake.

"What is it?" your mom asks you.

"I got a letter in the mail!"

"Hogwarts?" Your mom asks confused. "I've never heard of it," she says as she wipes her hands on a towel. "Let me see it." You hand her your letter. She scans it carefully and looks over the rim of her glasses at you. "This has to be a joke!"

You shake your head vigorously. "It's real mom, look at the seal on the envelope." Just then, your dad walks in the door. "Look dad! I have a letter!" Your dad walks over to your mom and peers over her shoulder at the letter.

"Hogwarts?" He asks.

You nod your head. "Can I go?"

"I don't see why not," your father says as he winks at you. Your mom gives him a weird look.

"It says it's a school of witchcraft and wizardry," your mom says in disbelief.

"Yes, it does, and he's going to do great there," your dad says smiling.

"So, I can go?" you ask. Your dad nods. You run over and hug him. "Thank you!" Your dad takes the letter out of your mom's hands.

"You better go look at that check list attached to the back," your dad says as you grab the letter and run up the steps to your room.

You lie on your bed and scan through the check list attached to the back of the letter. It reads:

HOGWARTS SCHOOL of WITCHCRAFT and WIZARDRY

UNIFORM

First-year students will require:

1. Three sets of plain work robes (black)
2. One plain pointed hat (black) for day wear
3. One pair of protective gloves (dragon hide or similar)
4. One winter cloak (black, with silver fastenings)
Please note that all pupil's clothes should carry name tags.

1 wand
1 cauldron (pewter, standard size 2)
1 set glass or crystal phials
1 telescope
1 set brass scales
Students may also bring, if they desire, an owl OR a cat OR a toad.

PARENTS ARE REMINDED THAT FIRST YEARS

ARE NOT ALLOWED THEIR OWN BROOMSTICK
