"Okay," she drops a book down in front of him, "I've found the answer."He leans forward, resting his wand into his lap, and furrows his brow as he reads. "The Great Wizarding War, Volume One: Death Eaters and His Following?"
The older girl takes a seat down next to him as she nods. "The reason my Uncle died, the reason my father doesn't have contact with any of his family... they were all Death Eaters, right?"
Harry nods at her. "Sure, we knew that. Sirius told us."
"Well what he didn't tell us, was this..." Evelyn reaches a hand over and opens the books edge so he's looking at the contents summary. "I think it's page 237," she tells him.
He takes over, grabbing the bulk end of the pages and scrolling through them with his thumb until he reaches 237; when he opens the book fully to the chapter page Evelyn had guided him to, his jaw goes slack.
"No," he says.
Evelyn nods. "Yes..."
On the tight hand page, in bold, tapestry letters, read the chapter title:
THE HOUSE OF BLACK
"Your dad's family—"
"The Blacks: one of the richest, most powerful families in the Wizarding World," Evelyn says, remembering the text a little too clearly, "the most powerful that was by You-Know-Who's side."
"Evelyn," Harry gaps at her, "You're family is one of the most well respected and known in our world... How— can you believe it?"
"Me?" Evelyn giggles at him. "Harry... we're all from families like this."
"We are?" Harry questions.
"I've read about it, at my fathers," She tells him quietly. "He has this really thin, tall book that sits on the back shelf of the library that explains it all: there's 28 families in our world that've been here since the beginning, and they've always been very strict in how they keep their blood lines alive."
"And you mean all of us," Harry repeats, "as in..."
"The Potters, the Blacks," she gestures, "the Malfoys, the Weasleys... Longbottom is another one — the Abotts, Hanna Abott, oh! Flint and Olivander and Molly's family, the Prewetts are too; of us are pureblood families from the start. And you know how He felt about purebloods."
Harry closes the book, "A little too good."
Evelyn curves her brows in at him as he stands up. "You aren't going to read it?" She questions.
Harry pauses to look at her. "You thought I was going to read?"
She scoffs, rolling her eyes. "Get out, Potter," she playfully hits his arm, "I have a date."
