Gavin's ears were ringing loudly as the cold air woke him up, it was a cold winter night. Gavin found himself had a headache pounding in his head as he awoke trapped in a small shed. He immediately started questioning where he was and how he got there. These questions repeat in his head as he surveys the room before getting to his feet.

Under the door he spots a bright slither of blue light, illuminating dust particles floating around the room. His only choice is to open the door, just to find a man staring boldly at him. You suddenly snap into reality. It's been weeks ever since Landon found Gavin inside of that car. "What happened to you? Are you alright?" Gavin, still confused and drowsy, slowly sat himself up and started regaining his memory. "I haven't a clue to be honest." Gavin replies. Gavin looks around, vision still blurry, he identifies another human. "My name's Aiden!" Aidan points to the other man and says "That, is my friend and faction member Landon. Gavin wasn't focused enough to pay attention to Landon or Aiden, he also had no clue about his whereabouts. "Where am I!" Gavin shouted while quickly jumping out of the small wooden shack and immediately into a fighting stance. Landon replied calmly, "This is my childhood home-" "We found you in the woods a few miles away." Aidan interrupted.

"What were you thinking of going out when everything started?!" . "I.. don't remember.. Leaving in the first place. And what do you mean "When everything started"?"

"Your memories should be regained soon. Why don't you come inside and warm up a little, we have some spare winter clothes. I imagine it's pretty cold for you right now." Landon said generously

"Yeah.. I would appreciate that." Gavin replied.

"I've got a few questions though, do you have any experience with any weapons? Spoiler alert, you'll need some." Landon warned.

"Yeah, I used to shoot a crossbow that my older sister got me back at the range, but that's about it." Gavin explained.

"I think we've got a spare crossbow if you want to use that." Landon replied.

"Landon! We just met this guy, and your giving him our weapons? How can we know if we can even trust him!" Aidan exclaimed.

"Aidan, be polite, and also, anyone we can get will be helpful to our faction."

Gavin stayed quiet. He realized it's probably best not to say anything. Landon showed him around the house, not much was upstairs, but the main area was in the basement. Shelves were stacked with mostly opened canned foods, and a spout with a nearly empty tank.

"What is all this..?" Gavin asked, carefully observing his surroundings.

"Our fallout base, this part of town, is pretty safe from radiation, but the basements helps anyway." Aidan answered.

"Im sorry, did you say radiation?" Gavin asked with a concerned look on his face.

"You probably don't remember, but one day, everything just went white. No one knows exactly what happened, but what we know now is that our world is plagued with nuclear radiation." Aidan explained

"There are a lot of conspiracies around it, and for good reason too." Landon added.

"And you said I was going to need a weapon, so let me guess, are there zombies or something?" Gavin jokingly said

"Not exactly, but you're not far from it." Landon responded. "Creatures are mutated by radiation. I've seen some pretty cool stuff over the last month, like a massive owl soaring through the skies, and huge mutated rats clawing at sewer grates."

"I was joking about the whole zombie/monster thing, but now you've scared me, and this isn't some well thought out joke right?" Gavin asked

"I wish it was.." Landon said hopefully

Landon and Aidan showed Gavin to a spare cot, where he went to sleep.

BLOW! A violent pop woke Gavin up from his peaceful rest. He grabbed his crossbow and ran upstairs in search of the noise. He heard light chatter coming from outside. Gavin pushed open the door and readied his crossbow, only too see Landon hovering over a dead animal. Gavin inched closer to see what the commotion was about. A large, mutated squirrel lay on the ground with a deep hole running straight through the squirrel's left eye.

"What happened?" Gavin asked in great concern.

"I was searching the trash can as it was closed before, but now it was open, but as soon as I looked into it, that squirrel jumped me. I shot it a few times, at least the wounds aren't too serious." Landon had a long scratch mark running down his right arm, which inconveniently was his dominant arm, which might be a problem, but Landon figured just wrapping it up in a bandage should do the trick. Aidan and Gavin both headed back to the house, its hard to tell time, but if they had to guess it would be about 1:00 AM. Hours pass, and Gavin wakes up to go get some breakfast. He figured it would be rude not to ask what he could eat, as this wasn't his home anyways. He slowly entered Landons room, only too see him passed out on the floor, with his wound bleeding straight through the bandage. Gavin left to go get Aidan in a panic.

Aidan observed the situation, and shook him around a little. Landon awoke and stood up quickly, he tried to use his right arm to lift himself off the ground, but quickly regretted it. He held his wound, seething in pain. Aidan and Gavin both rushed to his aid. They carried him upstairs and laid him down on the couch, Gavin looked for some medicine, or anything to help with the injury. "What is that?" Landon mumbled, pointing at the window with his left arm.

A large flock of birds and some feral boars running beneath them were all charging at the house. Aidan quickly started to wonder what attracted them, but then, he realized. They never picked up the dead squirrel, and with the scarcity of food, the scent of rotting flesh is a very effective lure to most animals.

"GET BACK DOWN TO THE BASEMENT!" Aidan commanded, as Gavin helped him lift Landon back downstairs. As the creatures near the base, the notice the smell of Landons bleeding wound, and don't stop at the squirrel. Suddenly, the front door comes crashing down
