An owl sat on the old Kapok tree, his head tiltled slightly as he observed the being standing at the roots of his favourite tree. The familiar cacophony registered in the man's ears as he focused on pinpointing the unusual buzz he had initially heard, urging him to find its source. Deviating from his mission, he looked around the dense forest, his blue irises settling on the owl who was closely studying his actions. He broke into a grin and called out to the nocturnal,"Come down already." The owl flew down and started pecking on his friend's head before settling down on his shoulders.

The duo walked through the forest, with the man recounting his day's adventures while the owl listened intently. They say if you help one in need, a bond is formed between them. Similar to that was their story, Alec had been ten year-old when he had stumbled upon Chase, as he prefered to call the owl, covered in its own blood with a broken wing. The little boy had nursed the bird back to health. In the process, he had become so attached that when it was time for the owl to return back to his family, Alec had put up a terrible ruckus. Anyone who saw them together, could spot the strong bond between them. A bond which surpassed any other. Now, as they neared the Shield, he unwillingly said his parting words before the bird flew off in search of its meal.

The Shield, as his people called the invisible protective layer meant to protect them from the lurking dangers of the Amazon, was cast by the pack's witch long back. Only the pack members could move in and out of the Shield. When he asked his grandfather why they resided in a place where only danger lurks, he was told that the danger in the real world was ten times worse than in here. That was why, the now seventeen year-old spent his leisure time exploring the woods instead of the human world. The boy had a liking for the mortal world, one his grandfather had forbidden talking about. He knew that long back, all supernaturals had lived in peace with the humans. Why the tables had turned, the boy had no idea. He had turned the pack library upside down in search of a book mentioning the mortals, only to fail. The oldest books were from half a century ago, which is unusual as history records was something his grandfather strongly believed in. Also, the fact that they had shifted their pack on the next week of his birth to this uninhabited forest and his family's reluctance in talking about the subject raised questions in his brain.

The boy walked through the Shield, which morphed into his silhoutte before taking its original form. He continued on his way up a beat up path, looking straight at the packhouse which was barely visible above the dense greenery. He pushed the door open trying not to break the eerie silence. He walks along the empty hallways, taking a right turn he enters the common kitchen. He briefly checks the refrigerator, before picking out ingredients for a quick sandwich and set to work.

"James is expecting you."

Alex rolled his eyes, glancing up from his done sandwich. There leaning against the door, stood his Mom with a blank expression. He nods his head before taking a bite of his dinner. By now, Mrs. Jackson had become acquainted to her son's late night ventures. Getting of the Shield after curfew called upon punishment of the violator. Alex being the Alpha's son was the only reason he was excused by his grandfather. The boy had decided that each night he will spent outside the Shield, exploring the woods and so shall he do. She had tried to mend his ways, reprimanded him, counseled him but to no avail. Instead her son had threathened to leave the pack and take up residence in the mortal world. That statement had won him the argument.

She watched him grab his sandwich, and make a bee-line for his grandfather's room. Sighing, she cleaned up his mess before going back to her room. Her mate stood near the window, analysing the pack lands. She crept upto him and wrapped her arms around his torso. He visibly relaxed, turning around with a smile, he returned the embrace with a light kiss on her cheeks.
