Author's note: Let's start this month with something longer. 😂
It only takes to ignored connected kettle for the sparkle to spring and ignites a small flame. The unnoticed flames consume the nearest things and rose to be bigger. The worst-case scenario happens, and the whole room is beyond safe. It won't take long, and the whole house would be swallowed by the fire, with no path for escape.
That's what happened in Gun's house. The small man got home in the late hour after an exhausting day in his cafe. He just wanted a cup of tea before going to bed. He is always careful, but today luck wasn't on his side. Too tired, he forgot the kettle was still connected and went to sleep. In an instant, his house was on fire. The pungent smell of smoke woke him up, making him sprint to the staircase. The whole ground floor was already swallowed by the flames, forcing him to get back to his room. He runs to the window, considering jumping out. There was no way he could survive without an injury. The smoke reached his room, filling it even with the window open. Gun was lost and scared. He should call for help, but his phone was forgotten in the kitchen.
The dizziness overpowered him, yet he tried to fight it. He covered his nose with his sleeve, sliding down the wall as he helplessly waited for someone to help him. In the distance, he heard the sirens. He sighs in relief as the commotion in front of his house started to get louder. The voice giving out commands hurried footsteps and the sound of the spraying hoses.
He wanted to get up and scream, but his throat was dry and every attempt to talk end up painful, not to mention that his head was spinning, making him nauseous. His consciousness started to slip up.
"Hey, hey." someone was talking to him. Gun forced his eyes to open, focusing on the firefighter kneeling before him.
"I got you. You are safe now." The tall man spoke up again through a respirator.
"Can you hear me? I will give you this mask." He pointed to the transparent thing in his hand.
"You need to take a deep breath. Do you understand?" He asked, waiting for the response. Gun weakly nodded, keeping his eyes on the handsome firefighter as he put the mask on him.
"What is your name?" The firefighter asked, trying to distract him.
"Gun," He rasped out.
"I am Off. Let's get you out, Gun." Off picked him up with ease, taking him in his arms to safety.
