"Bella, it's been 2 hours and we don't even know where to find him! We're just wasting our time!" I whined as I stopped the car just right after I changed my mind about running the red light. Turned out I am not as badass as I thought I was.
Bella kept looking out the window in awareness and that's when I knew she must had loved that guy so much. How lucky he is. "Just give me half an hour, please?" She said before turning her head to me. Finally.
"On one condition," I said and she raised an eyebrow in questioning look, "his freaking place!" I almost begged her.
That's true, mates. We hadn't checked his place yet because Bella said there was no way he could be there and not answering her phone call. Well, I get where she was going with that but there's no harm in checking, right?
"But there's no way he's home! He could've easily answer his phone if he is." There you go.
"He might be asleep?"
She then bit her bottom lip, probably contemplating whether or not to give in. "Ugh fine." She muttered and I smirked in victory. I started the car again and drove away to Caspar's flat.
...
"I'll check. Wait for me!" Bella said and before I could complain, she slammed the door behind her and jogged up the stairs. So I sighed and leaned back on my seat.
I swear if that guy's upstairs, sleeping, I'm going to cut his balls off. How could he let Bella walked back home from uni all by herself? God knows what could possibly happen. I sure don't want what happened to her years ago happen again, not even once.
Now that you think of it, I wonder what Sophia, Bella's mom, would say to me, knowing I didn't take a good care of Bella, if she's still here. She was such a nice lady but her trust on me for taking care of Bella scared me.
The sound of the door shut snapped me out of my flashback and I looked to my left to see Bella sitting there, smiling ruefully at me.
God, what did you do this time, Caspar?
"Something wrong?" I asked her, my curiosity crept in.
"Nah." She chuckled dryly and stared at the road in front of us. "You're right. He was sleeping." She swallowed a lump on be throat and smiled again at me. "We can go now. I'm sorry for wasting your time." As much as I wanted to say I told you so, something went awfully wrong.
Oh, I'm so going to cut his balls off.
"Hey, I'll make him pay for his slumber, okay? He's going to wish he can never feel the bed again." I smiled slightly at her and she chuckled again but her eyes were red and I could tell she was holding back tears.
I wasn't sure what went wrong at that moment. Was she crying because he was asleep and abandoned her? I don't think it's something to cry about, but then again, I'm not a girl.
"Thank you, Joe." She leaned to me and hugged me from my side. I knew then that something was definitely off. However, I knew she wouldn't spill the bean so I guess I had to find out myself.
So I hugged her back and kissed the top of her head. "Anytime, Isabella."
...
"Dinner's ready!" Zoe shouted from the kitchen and I soon left the tv to finally fill my stomach with something.
"Food!" I exclaimed and ran to grab a plate and put two grilled chicken fillets on it and a glass full of chocolate milk, receiving a chuckle from my sister.
"Where's Bella?" Zoe asked, stopping me from preying on the beautiful looking food.
"Her room?" I asked, confused. Where else could she be?
"Yeah, but why doesn't she come out?" That's a good question. Bella loves dinner. And now that I think about it, she hadn't cam out of her room ever since we got back from our trip, looking for her so called boyfriend.
I put my plate on the table and left the kitchen. "I'll check on her." I said to Zoe.
I opened the door to Bella's room slowly and I found her lying on her bed, facing the wall. At first, I thought she was asleep but then she wiped her face once before turning her head around, facing me, with bloodshot eyes and a forced smile.
What's wrong with you, Bella?
"Are you okay? Dinner's ready, you know." I closed the door behind me and walked to her bed, taking a sit on the edge of it.
"Yeah, I'm okay." She sighed and positioned herself so her whole body was facing me. "I just have this killer headache so I think I'm going to sleep early." She explained but hell if I trust her. She was lying and even a blind person would know so.
What happened to telling each other everything? I wanted to ask her that so bad but I didn't want to ruin her day even more. I could tell it was a bad day enough for her without me ruining it more.
"Not even dinner?" I asked her instead.
"I'll live, Joe." She smiled but I just furrowed my eyebrows in disbelieve. "Joe, I'm old enough to know what I have to do in order to survive, trust me." Her words said more to me than it should. It's like she's telling me that my service on being her bodyguard was no longer needed. That she was a grown up lady and I wasn't ready for that.
Then again, what else could I do? She is grown up. She's no longer that little kid I played with in the park every single day. She was no longer that little girl I used to claim as my wife.
It had all changed years ago, Joe. Get up and get over it.
I then smiled at her and stood up, ready to leave. "Get some sleep. I'll see you tomorrow for breakfast."
And she smiled back at me. "You will."
