Hello, person that has found my special journal, writings, letters, whatever you want to call it.
Good afternoon (or morning or night), people of Earth! If you picked this up, you might think it's something written by an author, that it might be a new fictional series or something like that. I'm here to tell you that everything I write in this journal is true and that it really happened to me. Wait, I'm getting ahead of myself. You don't even know my name! Where are my manners? Sorry about that. I'm a little spacey right now, but that's because of . . . well, you'll see.
My name is Ariel Murphy, but not like the font. More like the Disney Princess. I do have a chosen name that I call my soul. However, you should know that I actually shouldn't tell you all my chosen name, the name I created for myself. Names are sacred, divine things, and if you give them to someone without fully trusting them, then you're doomed because they could betray you at a moment's notice. Since I believe names are very sacred, no one can know the real name that I gave myself to hide all my secrets and other things like that, and neither will you. Maybe I'll put a hint here and there about what my chosen name is, but for now, you can call me Ariel. Yeah, Ariel is my birth name. That's all you get, though.
Wow, I never thought that I would be doing this. Well, I know how to write, and I've written letters to people before (mostly against my will to family members I don't exactly like), but I never thought I'd write about my life after finding out about everything that seemed to make so much sense and that seemed to be so confusing at the same time. Who would've thought that a teenage girl from Florida (technically, Canada, but I don't live there anymore) would be telling others about her experience running away from Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and other monsters from ancient societies? Definitely not me! But we're here now, so let's get started.
You may be wondering why you have this little inconspicuous notebook. Honestly, I never thought that someone would copy the words I wrote down in my little notebook and send those out to people just like me, but it's happening now. I'm not sure how much I'll be able to write in my notebook-turned-journal, but I do need to do this for my sanity. Things have been changing so quickly for me, and if things change too much, then I won't be able to do this anymore. Life is short, and it is not fair, which is why I'm here to help you. I get that you might not want my help in this upcoming war based on the decisions I have made in my life and the people that I got involved with. The problem is that I might be the best person for you to listen to because you might find yourself in the same situation as me.
Have you noticed weird things happening around you? Do things randomly blow up when you get too mad at your father? Can you not pay attention in school because you have ADHD? Do the letters seem to float above the page whenever you're reading, making it hard to focus? Have you ever felt like you didn't belong in any place you've ever been in? Have you ever felt like your life doesn't belong to you? Have you ever felt like you had magical abilities? Is there an internal conflict within yourself about the different parts of who you are (vague, I know)? If you answered no to all the questions, then ditch this right now. You don't belong with us, though if you want to help out, then do it. If you said yes to all of those questions, then I have to tell you something.
You're somehow related to the mythological gods of ancient times. Yes, you read that correctly. You see, I'm from the bloodline of the Greek gods. My mom is . . . I won't tell you until later since I didn't know who she was up until recently. Just know that she's one of the Greek goddesses. There's also another thing about me that's special, but I won't spoil it for you. You'll learn a lot about me and what I'm going through in this journal, and I hope that you will join my journey and mission. I know some of you will think I'm selfish and too trusting, and that's fine. If you think you're like me, then I'm sorry. Life is rough being a demigod because we are targeted by mythological creatures. But it's still fun, right? Sometimes, but it's hard to have fun when you're running for your life almost all the time. My friends and I still managed to have fun with each other, and I hope you do the same.
Some of you reading this may be Greek or Roman or Norse kiddos, having mothers or fathers that are gods or goddesses. Good for you! The other half of you may be Egyptian Magicians, descended from the blood of the Pharaohs. You may even be a part of another religious tradition, and that's okay! But if you're truly like me, a . . . mix of different religions, then this is for you. Bad things are happening in all the world's religions, and it is affecting the world's balance. Come find me and my friends. You'll know us when you find us, trust me.
Join who? Well, I do have a group of friends. First, there's Jackie Knight, my best friend since before I can remember. She's been by my side ever since I moved to the States years ago. She's a mortal, but she can see everything mythological. Second, there's Pepe Khan. He's . . . complicated. He found me in my town of Jupiter, Florida, and ever since, we've been on a mission to find the rest of our group. Third, there's Cal Qismet. He's my brother from another mother, and we joke about everything. Fourth, there's Holly Fon. She doesn't like when Cal and I joke because she's "serious," but she's cool.
Okay, so there's my little group of adventurers. You might be wondering what we might be doing, though. Hear me out before you leave. There's a war brewing. Don't you hear the rumblings and grumblings from the sky? Yeah, that's the gods, trying to avoid the war that is coming sooner than they think. Do you hear rumors of war spreading all around the continents? Every single government is trying to stop what's coming, but they can't. My friends and I are trying to build up an army of demigods and magicians from different religious traditions all over the globe to save the world from a mysterious bad person (yes, I understand how this sounds. We don't know who the bad person is, but there is a bad person! Trust me!). Sounds rough, but it isn't. You caught me. I'm lying, but still. We need all the help we can get.
If you are turning away from me now, I wish you good luck. There are monsters in the world that will come after you, but if you think you can survive on your own, then so be it. I've seen people who thought that same thought and get slaughtered, but hey, you do you. If you want to join us, then good for you. We're all over the world, so come and find us. We'll be waiting for you. Then, we can train you for your destiny -- which is saving the world, if you didn't get that from everything I've written so far. It doesn't sound fair, and it isn't, but it's all we have.
I think I'm done. I hope you all have a great morning, afternoon, evening, night, or whatever. Good luck, each and every one of you. We're counting on you.
- Ariel Murphy
PS. I hate sounding morbid. It's not all bad things, I promise you. There are things that go bump in the night, but I am here trying to save all the innocent children and people from getting harmed. As I said, it's not fair, but it's what I have to do. Okay, now I'm done. See you soon. Or not.
