Getting to know Him

"Jayden, I told you not to run, stop..." a kid was running towards me as I rounded the curve to Sharon's room at the shelter, I saw him as he drew closer, it was Jayden. I bent myself to his height, opened my arms and he run straight into them.

"Hey, how are you, darling?...I'm fine, thank you and you?...hahaha, I'm doing well and how's your teeth?...it is less painful, I can chew chicken now...wow, that's great. Where's your daddy?...he's coming, he couldn't catch me..."

"Oh hello Greg...hi Vivian, I now know why he kept running even when I told him not to. I didn't know you also come here...always, when my shift is over...that's nice, have any favourite child here?...yes, I was going to her room when I saw Jayden...oo ok, Jayden's friend is also on this same stretch...oh I see_Jayden, could you tell me the name of your friend?...yes Auntie, her name is Sharon...wow, that's where I'm heading...you know her?...yes, the favourite child I mentioned. I got attached to her immediately I saw her, she's a fighter...oh yes, she is, I come here to volunteer with the kids sometimes and donate as well so we met her and she and J.J have become friends since then...that's wonderful...yeah, can we see her together if you don't mind?...I don't mind, let's go...great and about your picture frame, I'll pick it up as soon as it's done...sure, thank you".

We made it to Sharon's room and she was asleep, I contemplated leaving her to sleep but didn't want her to also miss her friend's visit since it would make him sad, so I tapped her gently and she opened her eyes

"Hey honey_sorry for waking you up, look who we have here..." immediately she fastened her eyes properly on them, she jumped out of the bed "J.J, you came to visit me...yes, Sharon, daddy said we could come today and I brought you iced cream...thank you" it felt so good to watch them, they were so adorable, I felt a pair of hands on my shoulders and I turned to see Greg "let's leave them to play for some time, what do you think?...we could, but only for a few minutes...sure" so we informed the kids and stepped out into the visiting area where there were seats for those who visited the shelter, they weren't allowed into the kids rooms alone. I work with the hospital so have special privileges and from what I gathered, Greg also works with the shelter so it's only natural he was allowed to break some rules.

"So Dr.Thompson, what made you choose this profession?...I've always wanted to be a medical practitioner but wasn't sure of the particular area to specialise in until something happened that made me want to be the children's doctor... that's admirable, sticking to one dream since you were young. As far as I can remember, I wanted to be a lot of things growing up, you know those children who want to be pilots, then later on doctors, lawyers, before they actually grow to become business men or entrepreneurs...hahaha, I can imagine...what happened for you to choose to be a paediatrician?...it's something I wouldn't want to remember now...oh that's fine, I can wait...you can?...yeah, try me...okay, if you say so. What about you, what do you do?... I'm an entrepreneur, I do a little of this and that...oh I see, but you love what you do right?... one hundred percent...great, can I ask you something?...yes, go ahead... I haven't seen Jayden's mum before, I mean is she busy or just not around for his appointments?...well, J.J's mum is no more, drug overdose...I'm so sorry...it's okay, we're healing, it took long to even bounce back but the Holy Spirit comforted us and is still comforting us...the Holy Spirit?_you mean God right?...God through the Holy Spirit who lives in us...okay, I don't really get the whole Holy Spirit thing but I know God and Jesus...Oh really? then you're about to be hooked up real good with the Holy Spirit; and he's a person, not a thing...oo ok, can you teach me more about him?...nothing would make me happier...thank you...my pleasure, I think we need to check on the children before they turn the room into a children's park...hahaha, you're right"

We went to check on the children and they were fast asleep, apparently from a lot of playing. Greg carried Jayden while I positioned Sharon well on the bed. "It's good we came to check on them and I'm glad J.J and I came to visit today, I believe the Holy Spirit wanted us to meet and have that talk...you think so?...I know so...how come you seem to be joyful and at peace despite what you've been through, from what you told me...again the Holy Spirit is the source of my joy and he can make you have this peace that garrisons your heart and mounts guard over it against the issues of life, such that, come what may, there's an unending spring of joy within you that lights up your countenance...wow, I love your outlook on life and I can really do with some joy in my life right now...say no more, once you believe in it and are open to it, you can have it...okay Sir, I'm ready to learn... hahaha, that's the spirit"

I didn't know how to interpret what I was feeling, I felt free in his presence and from what he told me, the Holy Spirit was the one at work and I could have that in my life as well. God knows how long I've waited to have a life of bliss and now he sends someone I least expect to walk me through it; a father to one of my patients, that's just great huh...
