I spoke to the nurse put in charge of the shelter at the Faith clinic with all those who assist her there and they immediately sprang to action as the safety of the children was their topmost priority. They expressed astonishment at what I told them, CCTV cameras were placed almost everywhere and they constantly checked on the children to ensure they were alright. I also made enquiries about the adoption procedure and I got to know that without a husband it would be quite difficult but if I had a responsible manly figure in my life (family), who would vouch for me, we could stand in as her guardians and adopt her. I went to my parents after work to discuss with them the way forward on Sharon's adoption process and my dad made mention of one of my cousins who could help me with that, but he lived in another city, for the adoption to be possible, he would have to at least live with me until the process is completed. I had some convincing to do, he always rooted for me and told me he'll be there for me anytime I needed him, I knew it was time for him to make good on that promise.
I invited Roland over for dinner (my cousin) so I could discuss my plans with him and he didn't disappoint. I showered after preparing dinner and heard the bell chime
"Roland...Vivi!!!" he lifted me off my feet like I was a little girl, I sure needed that hug
"it's so good to see you after such a long time, the last time I saw you was at Tracey's funeral...yeah, no sad talks, it's good to see you too...what's up with this adoption thing I'm hearing...oh yeah, you and I are going to be parents...you want to make me an early parent already?...come on Roland, I need a manly figure otherwise I would have to be married before I could adopt Sharon...she must be really special for you to go through all this trouble for her...you have no idea, I'll take you to meet her one of these days...okay_ so what happened to 'boyfriends'?...I don't have one...are you kidding me right now?...no, I'm serious...is it because of that jerk you had as a husband?...partly, but the point is, I wasn't ready to go out with anyone...so you are now?...I'm considering it...tell me, who's the guy?...there's no guy...no no no no, for you to be considering it, someone must have gotten your attention...dinner is ready, let's go to the dining table...oh, I see what you're trying to do, avoiding the question, we'll get back to it"
Roland literally coaxed me into telling him everything about Greg "Why do we always make life difficult for ourselves?...what do you mean by that?...simple, this Greg guy is a single dad with a son and you're looking for someone to be a father figure to your incoming daughter which technically makes you a single mum in a way...and where are you going with this?...just let me finish, from what you've told me, Greg and his son also love Sharon and Greg loves you so why won't you propose the idea to him so that you both get married and boom! you have two children to take care of...that is the craziest idea I've ever heard_to start with, I never said Greg loves me...oh he does, he just hasn't mastered courage to tell you yet...you don't understand Roland, even if he loves me as you claim, that's not enough for him to commit to marrying me. He's a bit skeptical about 'the other woman' not loving his son like his mum did...that's simple, prove to him that you're not like other women, you're different, besides you love his son too...Greg is a strong christian and he would want his home to be run by christian morals and principles...are you saying you're not a strong christian?...I was but you know what happened after Tracey...listen, you can be that strong and devout christian lady again, all you have to do is put your past behind you and forge ahead. Be determined to fight for your christian faith okay?...okay, thank you Roly...you know I don't like that name one bit...hahaha, get used to it because you'll be here for awhile_but I'm not telling Greg your crazy idea...look at that_why did you thank me then?...because I've made up my mind to be a devout christian again and take my walk with God serious...well, I'll continue to bug you till you tell Greg, at least try, you have nothing to loose and if he says no, which I'm very sure he won't, then I'll come in...that's not fair, you came here to help me...and I will help you, just a slight change in plans...get out of here...hahaha, I love you too"
