"What's been up with you lately?" Wanda asked as she browsed through the hangers of clothes in their favorite thrift store. Every now and then picking something out of the line of fabrics, checking the tag."What do you mean?" June answered in a mumble, picking up a men's t-shirt with some retro print on it, showing it to Wanda waiting for her reaction.
"Hell, yeah" she nodded enthusiastically, and June placed the shirt in her basket. "I mean, that you've been acting weird, distant or whatever" she continued, holding up a pastel, knitted sweater, showing it to June.
"Cute" she looked quickly at the shirt. "And I don't know I just- ", June paused sighing "do you ever feel like you stuck, and everything is moving so fast? Like you just need to stop time for a second to breathe and think?" She spoke quickly, having to stop and catch her breath.
"I know the feeling" Wanda sighed, "Anything, in particular, that's making you feel down?" she kept browsing, throwing a pair of jeans in her basket.
"I'm not feeling down, I just feel like I need a break from it all" June sighed, giving up on the rack in front of her and turning around to look at the one behind her. Immediately finds a nice sweatshirt, putting it in her basket.
Wanda turned around, grabbing June's arm and turning her so that they were facing each other "We could!" she shouted excitedly, making heads turn glaring at them in the small space. June gave them a dirty look, before turning her eyes to Wanda. "What do you mean?" she asked.
"We could take a break, grab an early morning train, and just leave this hell of a town for the day!" Wanda had to catch her breath, speaking so fast. June chuckled at her absurd suggestion, "I can't just leave Wanda, I have work" she pointed out.
"Oh, come on! Just tell Steve you need the day off, I'm sure he and Bucky could figure something out, they can manage without you for one day" Wanda tried to convince June, and it was working. June wasn't gonna lie, a day away from Bucky, Pietro, and everything else in this town sounded amazing. "Yeah, okay fine" she agreed after a moment of thinking.
"Yes! This is gonna be so much fun" Wanda assured June, turning to the rack of clothes again. "And it will give me an excuse to buy this!" She held up a pair of sunset-orange jeans, paired with a white tank-top with a flower print the same color, "It's a little expensive though" she checked the price tag.
"You have to get it! That would look so good on you" June grabbed the clothes from Wanda's hands and placed it in her basket, "if you don't get it I will buy it for you" she smiled at Wanda.
"Fine, I'll buy it" Wanda laughed. "I got some late birthday money from a bunch of my relatives, so it'll be fine".
As the girls walked out of the store, planning the adventure of tomorrow, Wanda spotted Steve across the street. "Fuck" June whispered and kept her head low. "If he sees I'm out today he won't believe me when I come up with some excuse to not work tomorrow".
"Oh come on, it's Steve we're talking about, he's like the kindest person on earth" Wanda argued. "Hey, Steve!" She shouted at him, waving her hand to catch his attention. June turned her head to her and glared, "Why the hell would you call him over?" She snapped at Wanda. "Just trust me" Wanda answered.
"Hey, what are you two up to?" Steve asked, smiling at them as he had made his way across the street.
"Oh, just some shopping", Wanda began, "Hey Steve, JJ is gonna need the day off tomorrow, I really need her to come with me to this thing I've got, it's personal" she lied. Steve saw right through her but figured it was really to give June a break, and considering she had been working almost every day since she graduated he wasn't gonna protest. "It's fine, you could use a day off, get away from things" he smiled at June. "Thanks" June knew that he didn't believe Wandas lie, but she could really use this day away.
