"...eight bodies were found at an office in Ikebukuro around 8 pm. The CEO of Mokota Corp. as well as several executives of other large corporations were among the victims. Six of the victims were shot in the head, and two had died of blood loss resulting from a wound on their neck. One of the victims had several broken bones in their rib cage. The killer had most likely used a sharp blade or a knife and a small handgun to commit the massacre. The police have the case under investigation and have announced to catch the murderer..."

Izaya spun around on his leather chair mindlessly listening to the news with half an ear. It was not a sign of disinterest, oh not at all, he was actually very interested in the case of yesterday's murders, but all the information shown on TV was something that he already knew. After all, he had been at the scene sharp 16 minutes after the murders. There he had been able to sneak his way into the security room where all of the monitors linked to surveillance cameras in the building as well as the recordings of them from the last 72 hours were located. He was able to plug in his own flash drive and save all the data from the cameras, not deleting anything in the process of course. But to his dismay, and most probably to the dismay of the police, there were no camera recordings of the murder room in question.

To tell the truth, it was not actually surprising to him. Izaya knew that the data loss wasn't caused by the murderer, but in fact the staff of the building had cut off the cameras by an order of the CEO because of the nature of the meeting; they were not meeting on grounds of legal business matters but on those of illegal in nature. And how did Izaya know this? Because they were his clients and had specifically requested the information broker to provide the necessary data for the meeting. And this ties to the reason why he is so interested in this case: he was not paid yet and now he was not going to be paid at all with his contact person dead. Weeks of work wasted just like that! In addition, none of the documents supplied by Izaya were found by the police, so now there was an information leak. Well maybe that's better than them ending up in the hands of police, buthe still couldn't leave it alone. He stopped spinning and squeezed the handles of his seat in irritation. He had to catch the murderer before they caused any more problems in his businesses.

"...The victims were found by the employees of the entertainment house Happy Feelings. All of the employees of the establishment are put under investigation as it seems that the murderer had access to their information. A possibility of an affiliation between the murderer and Happy Feelings is being inspected by the police. This crime has shaken many in the Tokyo as the business leaders present at the crime were well known across the country and ..."

The news reporter went on about the crime and the victims, but Izaya was already planning on his next move. He had previously made a folder for the murderer that he had nicely named "The Escort" inspired by the tactic the murderer used to get to their victims. Inside the folder was all the information that he had gathered about them, or more accurately her: he was sure that the murderer was a woman just by judging her tactic, but he was also able to get a peek of her from the surveillance cameras of the corridor leading to the room. She seemed to be around [your height] when you deducted the height of her heels. How was he sure that she wore heels? Well, bu the bloody heel prints on the corridor of course. Other information about her appearance was hard to guess as the said heels muddled her shoe size, and the black cloak fully covered her body. Wait what if the murderer was a man that wore heels to confuse the police as well as the victims?

"Oh how interesting that would be," Izaya laughed to himself. But no, the most probable conclusion was that it was a woman. The other conclusion Izaya had come to was that the murderer was most likely an assassin, and that this was not the first assassination on her part. During the last months, Izaya's clients as well as some other acquaintances had decreased by a notable margin as some of them had gone missing and others found murdered, just like the executives yesterday. He was not 100% sure if it was the same person behind all of the murders, but many of them had the same element of meticulousness and precision to them. However, yesterday there was a new element; it was the first time a gun had been used, which is why Izaya was unsure of his conclusion. But he had a hunch, a strong one, that it was the same person behind all of them. And if it was, they were following a careful plan. Plan that included the assassination of those powerful and rich who used their power for evil, for the detriment of other humans and/or for the detriment of the planet. There was a strong demographic showing in the victims of the assassin in question.

"I am close... So close! Soon I will know who you are and then you are going to pay for meddling in my business! Oh how satisfying it will be to see the look of defeat on your face as your plans for whatever you are trying to do will be ruined!" He laughed and rejoiced in the hypothetical (in his mind definite) doom of his newly found enemy.

"Yes, I will find you. You have so hard tried to do everything perfectly, making no mistakes, leaving no trace of vital identifying information at the crime scenes, but now, just yesterday, you made your first mistake." Izaya got serious and grinned with devilish excitement in his eyes.

"Tanaka Eiichi. The one victim you missed. I guess I will meet you sooner than thought."
