It was a warm, windy day in the fall. The wind picked up, scattering leaves everywhere. Children all around the neighborhood were coming out of their houses to play in the freshly fallen leaves. Raking them up into large piles and jumping into them. It was a safe neighborhood. So they played without a single care in the world. These children were so innocent and oblivious to all the dangers that surrounded them. For the moment, they were safe. Who knows, they might have even survived if Nathan, one of the older kids, hadn't suggested that they play hide and seek in the woods. The other kids went silent and stared at him. Not saying anything. Some would shift uncomfortably while staring at the ground. Others looked slightly afraid, the blood draining from their faces. One kid said, "My mommy says the woods aren't safe." Some of the other kids nodded, inching away from Nathan. He said, annoyed, "What? You'r all too scared to play? You're afraid of the "Slenderman"? Please. Stop being wimps and let's go!". His gang of friends showed up and joined him. He stood waiting for more players, but when no one else joined he just said angrily, "Fine!!! You can all stay here and play your stupid baby games. C'mon guys." He began walking away with his friends following close behind. Some of the other kids looked at each other uneasily and reluctantly began walking in the same direction Nathan and his friends were headed. The rest of the kids didn't want to be left out, so as more kids left, more followed until every single child was making their way into those forbidden woods.
They all made their way passed the safety of their homes until they had reached the small wooded fence that they knew to be the entrance to those mysterious woods. The woods seemed to have this power over them. It seemed to pull them in more and more with every passing second, along with an intense feeling of foreboding. They were a few feet away from the fence, but no one dared cross it. As if the fence itself could seal their fate. Finally, Nathan stepped up. "Well. Don't just stand there. Are we gonna play or not?". He put one hand on the fence, knowing he couldn't back down now. He took a deep breath and easily climbed over it. The rest followed his example, except for one little girl who stayed behind. She looked about 6 years old. It was the same girl who had spoken up earlier. The one who didn't think it was safe. "C'mon scaredy cat!", Some of the other kids teased, gaining confidence from finally being in the woods they had feared so much. The girl simply shook her head. "My mommy says the woods aren't safe.", she repeated. She began taking slow steps backwards until she felt her back touch a large tree trunk. She stood there, trembling slightly. The other kids laughed and went on without her. She heard their screams of joy. As she heard their laughter, tears welled up in her eyes. She didn't mean to be such a wuss, but she really thought the woods weren't safe. Her mother had always told her that if she went into the woods, the "Slenderman" would get her and gobble her up. So she stood there waiting for the kids to return. As she waited, she felt the air suddenly get really cold. She shivered, and she could see her breath. She started shaking again. Getting an intense feeling of pure fear. The other kids noticed it, too. At first, they were having too much fun to notice the sudden climate change. But as they all were waiting to be found in their hiding spots, they got really cold, and received the same terrible feeling of fear. They heard Nathan say, "Ready or not here I come." They all stayed in their hiding places. No longer wanting to play, but they were all paralyzed by fear. So they stayed quiet. No longer hiding from Nathan, but hiding from whatever brought that horrible feeling of terror. One of the smallest children, Michael, was the most terrified of all. He was only four and had followed his big brother into the woods because he wanted to prove he wasn't scared. Now he just wanted his mother. He waited behind an old tree. He regretted going so far away from everyone else. He hugged the the tree as hard as he could. Just wanting something to hold on to. He heard a twig snap, and his heart leaped. He heard leaves rustle and he knew someone was walking in his direction. He was relieved at the thought of being found by Nathan, and jumped out from behind the tree to reveal himself."BOO!" But there was no one there. Just trees. Then he felt something behind him. He was relieved until he heard Nathan's distant voice several yards away. His knees buckled and he started to whimper as he saw a very large shadow cast over him. "M-m-mommy!" He sobbed. He turned slowly only to face a very tall and terrifying creature. It wore a black suit and was the tallest thing Michael had ever seen. It towered over him glaring menacingly. That's what scared him the most. He could feel its glare burning into him, but it didn't have a face. Its black suit making its white skin pop out more. As he looked straight at its face he had the most inexplicable, most intense feeling of fear he ever had. He let out a loud scream that could be heard for miles. It was this that alerted the other kids that they needed to get out of the woods. one by one they began to slowly head back the way they came. The little girl heard Michael's scream, but that wasn't the end of it because it was closely followed by many more. Each scream more blood curdling than the last. One by one, the kids encountered the tall figure and were immediately devoured. Being ripped to shreds and feasted upon. The creature looked more terrifying with each kill, blood staining its suit, and caked on its large hands. It grew hungrier with every child it ate. It hunted all the hidden ones first, but as it finished eating the last hidden child. It stalked the last group of children. It saw an older boy leading the group, it would save him for last. As Nathan walked he reassured the kids he had found "Don't worry. It's just a trick. They're around here somewhere. One kid said, "Maybe we should go get help. My momma told me that the Slenderman lived here and he would eat me if I entered his woods," "Please! How many times to I have to tell you. There is no such thing as the Slenderman. Quit being a wimp and get moving. Or are you too scared?" Nathan waited for a reply, but stopped when he realized that he could only hear his own footsteps. He turned around to empty woods. Just trees.
Nathan's heart started racing, he could hear it pounding in his ears. His head was spinning and he felt like vomiting. He spun around, looking everywhere for someone, anyone. The trees rustled in the wind, chanting at him. Mocking his fear. They seemed to glare at him wickedly, closing in on him until he felt he couldn't breath. He couldn't take it anymore. He looked for the fence. It was farther then he would have liked but the it was reachable. He took off running at full speed. He knew he could reach it, he knew it. He kept running, his heart pounding in his ears. He ran until his chest started to burn. He stopped to catch his breath. After a few minutes he tried again, this time running faster than before. He didn't seem to be getting any closer. In fact, he could have sworn that it was farther away. He felt the wind pick up again. Dark clouds loomed above, casting an enormous shadow on the already darkening woods. He shivered, the temperature was dropping again. He stood there, frozen by fear and the cold. He felt the woods pulling him in. He turned to the now dark woods and immediately was dragged in deeper. The ground was moving beneath him. He dug his heels into the ground, but it was no use. He was dragged in faster and faster until he suddenly stopped. He had no idea where he was. His legs shook violently. His bottom lip quivered as he stood in absolute silence, paralyzed by fear. He saw a note on one of the trees ahead of him. He very cautiously approached it. Taking slow steady steps. He reached up with a shaking hand and took the page off the tree. He brought it up to his face, squinting in the dark. He dropped the page and silently cried out of pure terror. He felt a rustling noise behind him. He slowly turned around to see the most horrifying creature he had ever seen in his life. All he could think about was how tall it was. It was so, so tall. He urinated himself, finally succumbing to his fears. He was pulled towards it, slowly. He could only sob as he was pulled in by it. Whatever it was. He stopped right in front of him. He had to look all the way up to see its blank face. It glared back at him, it glared without eyes. It emitted a low, rumbling growl and he stared in horror as a slit began to open in the bottom part of its face. Opening into a large, sharp-toothed mouth. It grinned evilly, and hungrily lunged at his prey. Making an absolute mess. Nathan died believing in the Slenderman. Like all the rest.
That little girl survived to tell her story. Immediately running home after the first couple screams she heard and getting help. The police arrived to the scene of the crime shortly after. Absolutely horrified by the amount of blood and remains of children. It was a tragedy for the entire town of Proklet. The case became known as the Proklet Massacre. It remains unsolved to this day. The only evidence the police ever found was a blood stained page with words scribbled on it saying "DON'T LOOK OR IT TAKES YOU". Oh, but it's not over yet. It's far from over.
