This chapter finally gets Betty where we want her! I hope you enjoy! Don't forget to vote, comment and share!
What's one thing you really want to see in s18?
For me, I want Charlotte King and Addison to come back for Amelia. After the season finale, I feel like she's spiralling and nobody knows her well enough in Seattle to notice.
Without further ado, here is your (very late) chapter!
-----------------------------------Amelia Shepherd arrives at work late. Not late for her shift, but a good thirty minutes after she'd've liked, cutting off 2/3 of her usual preparation time before her first consult or surgery.
"Dr Shepherd?" Richard Webber, former chief of surgery at Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital approaches Amelia as she falls through the door, throwing her baggage on the attending's table and jostling the older man's coffee.
"Sorry! Late!" She squeals.
"I can see that!"
Amelia rushes into the bathroom to change, but Richard persists to talk to the young doctor through the door.
"I haven't seen you at a meeting for a while." Richard observes. His tone could easily come across as condescending, but the slight stutter at the beginning of the sentence illustrates that there is, in fact, some care behind the statement.
"Had to go to the one downtown this week." Amelia calls, and Richard nods despite the barrier of the door.
"Ahh. Awful coffee." He comments with a chuckle. There seems to be a reoccurring hatred for that particular brew amongst the sober of Seattle.
"Got me craving vodka to wash the taste of it out my mouth." Jokes Amelia, surfacing from the bathroom. Amelia smiles are goofy smile, the one that engulfs her face, her eyes screwing up to make room for the beam. Richard, on the contrary, doesn't look all too impressed.
"Jesus!" Amelia rolls her eyes, the room dimming as her mouth closes to a flat line. "That was a joke!"
"Not funny Doctor Shepherd." Grumbles Richard.
"You'll never guess what's been going on!" Amelia changes the subject.
"Enlighten me, Doctor." He sighs, eyebrows still raised.
Amelia pours herself a cup from the pot Richard brewed earlier, without asking of course, before diving into her story after a much needed sip of caffeine.
"Betty. Betty Nelson. At my door. Quite a few times." Amelia punctuates.
"Betty" Richard lets out a chuckle. "Gosh, she was sweet!"
Amelia cocks her head. "Are we remembering the same child?" The doctor makes her way to the side table and grabs three sachets of sweetener.
"The drugs made her harsh."
Amelia nods in truth. "They did, you're right. She is sweet."
Once all the sugar is dissolved, Amelia takes another sip, sighing as the warm liquid finally begins to wake up her bones.
"I've seen her at a meeting actually." Richard continues. His revelation gets Amelia's fully attention. "Didn't say hello, I had to rush off unfortunately."
"Oh good." She sighs. "She told me she stopped going to meetings."
"It wasn't so long ago."
"Oh that is a relief."
"Is she.....Is she okay?" Asks Richard. While the pair were never close, Richard did feel a kinship towards Betty, possibly through his pride of Amelia and her next step in sobriety. Richard had been a companion for the doctor for a while, and he felt honoured that Amelia had decided to extend that circle.
