CHAPTER THIRTY-THREE ❛ goode is evil ❜
BILLIE'S DAD WALKED OUT ON HER WHEN SHE WAS STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL. She remembers the day painstakingly clearly. The penultimate argument between her mom and dad; her and Tommy creeping out of bed to listen from the top of the stairs; the packed suitcases in the hallway. Despite her age and maturity, Billie couldn't comprehend what was happening. She felt so numb to it all it was hard to even feel her brother's arm on her shoulder, pulling her in for shelter.
Billie struggled to understand the reasoning behind everything. Her mother only spoon-fed her lies about what her father had done and Tommy was too upset to give her a straight answer. Even as she watched her dad gather his things and slam the front door, she was still stuck in a trance, incapable of fathoming the severity of it all, let alone conjure any kind of emotion.
