"COME AGAIN?"
Nick was hoping for some kind of glimmer of ease in the girl's responsive expression. But Billie was not at ease, and that could easily be deducted by the look on her face. The boy cleared his throat a few times, trying to itch every surface of the back of his mouth. "We're uh sharing a room," he mumbled, this time, no sense of spirit could be identified in his expression.
Billie was waiting for an exasperated laugh, and a cheery "I'm kidding!", neither of which came. "No, I understood the sentence fine, I just needed you to say it again, so I know it's a joke before I actually start believing it. Because it is a joke right? I swear I'll laugh if you tell me it's a joke."
Nick swayed his head with a sigh, determined not to meet her eyes, "It's not a joke. Anyone who had previously stayed in Cabin D has been divided up into other cabins where there is space. Including some supervisor cabins," he explained.
