Mind Games:Mai versus Marik[ON HOLD]

Chapter 8

Jounouchi's Point of View~~~~~~~~~~

Mai fell to the ground and I immediately ran up to the closest I could get to the arena.

"Mai!", I shouted! "Mai!!"

She looked at me but, looked at me blankly. Almost confused...As if...

As if she didn't know me.

I turned to Yugi and questioned frantically,"Yug', why isn't Mai responding to me?!"

He didn't answer but turned to face me with sorrow all over his features.

"No", I said in an aggressive voice that even shocked me. "Mai has not forgotten me", I demanded.

Skizuka placed a hand on my shoulder, in a feeble attempt to calm me down.

"Oniichan", She spoke calmly as if trying not to set me off. (A/N:Oniichan means big brother-Just saying.)
She then used her free hand to unball the fists I had made at my sides. Fists I didn't even know I had made.

I looked around and everyone was staring at me, almost expectantly..

What do they want me to do? Intervene? Stop the duel? I guess I could...

I started to step towards Rich-Boy Kaiba to get him to stop the duel when Yugi stood in front of me. I could have sworn he was behind me...

"Move Yug'" I said seriously. I sounded dangerous with my Brooklyn accent.
But,Yugi saw right through me. The little guy always did.

"Jou", he started carefully as if not to make me explode. I was literally a walking bomb. "Mai needs to come back from this on her own"..

I looked up at Mai. Her eyes were endless blank pits of violet. But they seemed to have gone a shade darker.

I couldint stand to see her like this.

Where's The Mai I knew? I pondered. The one who could always win; no matter what the situation. The arrogant snob who loved herself. The stubborn little girl who trusted nobody and felt unloved. And...the compassionate woman that I fell in-

Something interrupted my thoughts.
Mai had stood up again.

I was suddenly walking along a lonely winding road, at what seemed like twilight. (A/N:THE THREE BROTHERS;Harry Potter reference!!)
Where's there's just a faint light that's about to disappear.

I stopped when I heard maniacal laughter.
I looked up ahead of me and there was Marik.
"Very Comfortable up here isn't it", he questioned while smirking evily.

Did he mean up on the blimp?
Or wherever we are now?

Marik laughed.
"My poor dear, you don't know where we are? You really are clueless. I didn't peg you as a fool. I supposed you had women's intuition; as they call it".

That's when it occurred to me.
How did he know what I was thinking?

Just then I sensed something behind me.
It wasn't even something...
It was just a sort of feeling.....
Warmth...

That's when I turned around and more light had materialized around a shadowy figure.
The light was so bright I had to cover my eyes and squint to even make out who the figure was.

It was Yugi.

"Yugi?", I asked very confused. "What are you doing up here?"

He smiled. Not just any smile. But just a friendly one.

"Mai. We're up in your mind". He spoke, still smiling.

Before I could speak the many questions I had for him, he continued.

"We need you back in the real world. The duel is not finished".

Marik joined in quickly, almost agitated. Maybe even anxious.
"What's in the real world for her anyway,Pharoah? She has no friends".
He smirked.
"A certain blond in your group has made that quite clear to her".

Yugi scowled at him. Maybe the meanest thing I had ever seen him do.
"Jou is too her friend! Even more so!"

"Even more reason to take him away from her", Marik replied.

That's when Yugi turned to me again.
"Mai you need to remember. You have friends waiting for you out there. Supporting you. They're counting on you to win".

I closed my eyes. It was all up to me now. I let the light surround me. Engulf me in its brightness.

And the next thing I new, I was on Kaiba's million dollar blimp again; and Marik was opposite of me.
