They loved each other. That was it. Clay had George and George had Clay.
George looked up at Clay between his arms where he was lying, almost drowning in Clay's oversized hoodie. Clay planted a kiss on his head, the both of them trying to keep their minds off it.

They could smell the smoke and the burning.

They could feel the near blistering heat.

They could hear crashing and crackling and sirens as their home and their world went up in flames, falling apart before their eyes.

It was too late now. George and Clay sat in their living room bidding each other one last goodbye.
Their escapes, their exits- all blocked and cluttered with no way out.

So they wanted to spend their last moments with the one they loved most; each other.

They looked at their crumbling home around them, and knew they wouldn't make it out. At least, not the both of them. Clay knew George would stay back to hold up an exit for him, and George knew Clay would carry him through the embers and make sure he got out, no regards to his own safety.

So they stayed together.

They stayed in their chair, wrapped in each other's arms, smiling as the flames engulfed them because no matter what happened, they were together and they were in love and nothing could take that away from them.
