Jacob was already waiting for Olivia on the Cullen's driveway when she arrived. He was leaning by the side of the house, shirtless as usual, and was staring at the woods, focused on any noises or movements that could potentially mean an attack.
His head snapped to her direction when he heard the engine of her car, the corner of his lips turning up slightly at the sight of her car. He didn't move until Olivia was fully parked and her car door opened, the boy greeting her happily.
"Didn't think Paul would actually let you come." He commented, Olivia scoffing.
"As if he could stop me. Besides, as long as I come before the vamps are all starving, he won't mind."
"Then you came at the right time. They aren't starving yet, but things aren't looking good for them."
"Or Bella, from what I've heard." Olivia closed the car door, looking up at the house. She immediately noticed Edward by one of the windows, looking serious and solemn. He was tense and his eyebrows were furrowed. His gaze met hers, the vampire only nodding at her before moving away from the window.
"Wow. He looks awful."
Jacob nodded. "Yep. I think he hates the kid more than Sam does."
"Dad of the year." Olivia paused, looking at Jacob. She hesitated, but pulled him into a hug, the boy hugging her back. "I'm happy you're okay, Jake. And I'm happy that you've taken your place as an alpha."
"Thanks, Liv. I'm happy you're here, even if it's just for today."
"Yeah, well." Olivia pulled away, walking up to the front door. "Esme and Rosalie have done so much for me and it would've been wrong of me to blindly choose a side in a war as complex as this one."
"When did you get so Poetic, De Costa?" Jacob questioned, opening the door for Olivia.
Olivia rolled her eyes. "I'm not."
"Maybe not poetic, but you are wise for your age, Olivia." Esme cut in, Olivia smiling brightly at the sound of the Cullen matriarch's voice. She couldn't help but run at the women waiting for her at the bottom of the steps, engulfing her into a hug.
Esme tensed up at the contact, Olivia's smell intoxicating her, but hugged the De Costa girl back and relaxed slightly, knowing that it may be the last time they could hug for a while. Jacob watched from the door, his eye stuck on Esme and her mannerisms, making sure she wouldn't attack Olivia. He may have left the pack but he still respected their laws and if Esme hurt Olivia in any way, though he doubted it, he would not hesitate to attack in Paul's name.
"Esme. It's been too long."
Esme ran her fingers through Olivia's hair, pulling away from the hug slightly to look her over. "You've been busy with the move. And I've-"
"Been busy with Bella's situation." Olivia interrupted, Esme smiling sadly.
"Yes, that is true."
