He knocked on the De Costa family house door, a bouquet if roses in one hand and the other shoved in his pockets.
He was dressed casually, a dark tshirt with dark jeans and his boots, leaning casually against the doorway while he waited for someone to open the door. Nobody would notice how nervous he was at first glance.
They wouldn't notice how tightly he grasped the flowers, how he left foot was tapping anxiously, and how his hand was in a fist in his pocket.
Although, his nerves were eased hearing the commotion inside.
"Olivia, I think he's here." Leonardo spoke."I'm not ready, yet. Dad, you've got to stall for me!" She panicked, rushing up the stairs. Paul smiled at this. So she was just as nervous as he was.
"Liv, you look fine to m-"
"Invite him in, talk about the game, just don't embarrass me. Thanks, Dad!"
Leonardo sighed, Paul knocking again. Leonardo opened the door this time, narrowing his eyes on the boy taking his daughter out. "Paul, it's been a while, hasn't it?"
Paul cleared his throat. "Yeah, Dr. De Costa, it has."
Usually Leonardo would insist Paul call him Leo, but this was the guy his daughter was going on a date with. This was a new slate.
"Come on in." He opened the door wide for Paul, Paul hesitantly entering. Leonardo motioned to the flowers.
"Those for Olivia?"
"Uh, yeah. She said her favorites were roses, so I got her some."
"Considerate." Leonardo nodded, sitting across from Paul. "Go on, take a seat. I won't bite."
"Okay." Paul was tense, waiting for the talk.
"So, Paul, what are your intentions with my daughter? What do you plan to do tonight?"
"I just want to get to know her, sir. She's an amazing person and I really like her. I just want to take her on a date, that's all. I'll have her home before 11, I swear."
Leonardo hummed. "You better treat her right, Paul. She's my only daughter and I will not tolerate any disrespect towards her in anyway. And she has been through a lot, so I expect you to respect her boundaries."
Paul furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean, what has she gone thro-"
"Dad, I thought I said not to embarrass me." Olivia came down the stairs in a purple dress with flowers, a pair of black heels on and her hair down, as usual.
Paul's breath got caught in his throat as he looked up at her, his eyes wide. "Wow."
"I didn't embarrass you, Liv. Isn't that right, Paul?"
"No, he didn't." Paul went to the bottom of the steps, taking her hand and helping her to the bottom. "You look amazing, Livs."
"You don't look too bad yourself."
