Despite my fierce emotions that were still roaring throughout my body, meeting those same, deep chocolate eyes made me pause for second. For a brief moment, seeing someone else other than my family, filled me with relief and satisfaction. That was until my mind recollected what had happened recently, and a sense of annoyance and frustration overcame me.
He obviously saw that I had been sobbing violently, so just stood, staring, not knowing what to do or say. His confused face was too amusing at that moment so I laughed...maybe a little too hard for someone that just broken down.
"What- why- um what's going on? Are you okay? Is everything okay?"
His voice halted me in my laughter. This was the first time I had clearly heard his voice. Just like his eyes it was deep, and raspy, hard and intimidating but also soft and caring.
The concerned tinge on his voice nearly sent me back to tears. No one had ever shown me that level of care or regard. Buried under emotion, in the silence, we stared at one another. It felt like the world stopped.
But I blocked my emotions. The thought that someone could open me up and figure out how I felt without even speaking, sent me into fight or flight.
As we slowly walked on, I jokingly punched his arm and chuckled slightly,
"Don't act sympathetic when you were the same one that couldn't stop laughing when I tripped last time. Remember?"
He continued to stare, not knowing whether I was okay enough to laugh along, or to ensure I was okay. Seeing me laugh made his eyes light up, so he played along.
"I'm sorry, that was just too funny."
He paused, looked up, thought back, and laughed some more. "How did that even happen though?"
"I honestly don't know, I was so pissed that day I didn't care who saw. Sadly it had to be you."
"Sadly?" He exhaled calmly. "I'll let that go, just for today though."
We laughed lightly in unison as we sat down on a nearby sidewalk.
Pushing his loosely curled hair away from his eyes, he turned and looked at me with serious concern.
"What's up though, for real, you didn't look too good a few minutes ago."
"Is that meant to be an insult?" I joked.
Expecting him to laugh I turned to him, but this time he was dead serious, his face filled with worry.
What is going on? I'm meant to dislike this guy but looking at that face was so mesmerising and sweet and...
"Hey are you sure you're good? Say something."
"Um yeah...well no but yeah I can't really say much, I don't know you after all." I tried to laugh, but all that came was an anxiety-filled breath of air.
"Oh. Okay."
He seemed disappointed but I was glad he understood.
The warm golden-yellow streetlight above shone and flickered, highlighting his features. Soft cheekbones but a sharp jawline gave him a model-like structure. With naturally down turned eyebrows, his face was undeniably sweet. His silky lashes masked his mysterious eyes, but his hard set mouth made him appear unapproachable.
"Sienna! Sienna!"
I had forgotten about everything and hearing my name brought me back to reality.
"I wonder who that lady's looking for."
"Me."
I jumped up.
"That's my mum. I basically ran away for a bit. Not surprised she's here. I guess I have to go." I stated causally so he didn't react.
As I turned away briskly, a warm hand grabbed my arm. I turned, looked up and connected once again with those dark, intense eyes.
"Give me your phone."
Without thinking I quickly gave it to him. My Mum was getting closer.
Typing something quickly, he handed it back.
"I hope I see you again...sooner rather than later."
He grinned slightly which gave me more butterflies than I'll admit. With that, I ran back, feeling ten times better than I did running here. Catching a glimpse of my phone, he had written his number, and the name above read: Diego.
"Sienna! Why on earth would you do that! You left us terrified, we had no idea where you were. For God sake!"
She was irritated but in that moment I did not care. I was still on a high.
She continued.
"Who was that boy? Why are you out here at night with a guy I don't know about? Are you listening?"
"Mum please just calm down. I left because of you and because of Dad and because of Danny."
I took a deep breath. "Not one of you bothered to listen to me back there. You only ran out of here so you can tell yourself oh I went to help my daughter what a great Mother I am!"
She glared at me. There was slight guilt in her eyes but underneath was pure cold and bitterness towards me.
I ran ahead not wanting her to ruin how free I had just felt.
Opening the door and walking straight past my Dad and brother, who looked like they had stayed up for hours, I went to my room and locked it.
I finally exhaled. Exhausted I thought, 'how does one stranger instantly make me feel better than the people that are meant to love me unconditionally?'
Whatever.
I closed my eyes, and for the first time in years, felt peace.
-----------------------------------------------------------We finally know the name of the cashier guyy!!! Did you expect her to run into him?
Do you see potential between them? Lmk :)
Glad you enjoyed, see you in chapter 4
