We stayed for there the whole night and half of the next day, to my displeasure and thanks. Whenever I went to grab something, Svaelon would growl and get it for me. I wasn't allowed to move around much, only as much as was needed.
I huffed at him as he growled again. I needed to get water and he was beginning to grate on my nerves, just a small bit mind you, but grating on them none the less. Snarling as he start walking over to me, I threw my legs forward and stood up. Shaking my scales out, I walked over to the river and took a long, deep drought of the freezing, and sweet water. Yawning loudly, I moved my wings and stretched them out. I sighed when I didn't feel any pain from them. I looked at Svaelon and nodded my head. He looked defeated, he wanted to wait longer to make sure they were fine.
"We'll leave in a hour. Okay Svaelon? Svaelon?" He nodded before he responded.
"Fine. You hungry? I'm going hunting." I nodded and laid back down to wait. It wasn't long before I heard his wingbeats fade and the trees leaves song gradually got louder and louder. Mumbling to myself about the increasing wind, I hoped that he would return soon and that the wind wouldn't be to bad and they could get some air time before they had to land again. I shivered as a small drizzle started to form. Deciding to move back under the trees, I quickly found refuge under a massive grove of hickory. I puffed out a bit of smoke before relaxing, and eventually falling asleep.
Page break ....
I was running, away from something. It terrified me and I couldn't find anyone. Darkness........ Then blinding light like at the end of a cave hallway or tunnel. Cool rock and crystals. Bright, like mirror shards. Mirrored like me and my mother and sister look alike. Alike, alike, alike. I screamed as my dream changed. My parents and family dead, not even my baby sister spared. Wait hope still was possible. I was here still. I could be a dragoness or an elf. I crawled through to the end of the tunnel that suddenly appeared. My family was there. Flowers dappled the ground, saplings stood young and tall. I looked next to them at a sandy shore of a lake.... And Svaelon standing there. Purring with his silly smile. I smiled and walked toward him. He opened his maw to speak.
I stayed asleep for a short while even after my dream ended. But before I was jolted awake by Svaelon, I slept pretty soundly. He peered at me weirdly when he woke me up, confused almost. It was then that I noticed the cold and wet and that his head was bigger. Looking down I realized that I had somehow shifted in my sleep. Shifting back I growled in the Fire Language, the language of dragons and one of my native tongues.
"I'm fine, just shifted in my sleep. Nothing that hasn't happened before. Are you okay? I was starting to get worried when you didn't show up. I waited for a while, but... I must not be as strong as I was before the accident. " I scanned his for injuries and only found a few scratches, nothing serious.
"I'm fine. I got you a small doe." He nodded his head toward a lump nearby. Smiling at him, I dug in and looked back when he spoke. "I found it, or at least I think so." I stared at him for a while, unable to comprehend it. " I couldn't get it though. The crack in the rock was to small for me..."
"Where was it? And what did this crack look like? Was it like a tunnel?" I asked urgently with my mind. His eyes closed some as he tryed to find the words to speak what he wanted to describe.
"It wasn't a tunnel but the crack has some kind of blue hue from what you would see with thick ice, or a gem... The walls were chisled very roughly, and scroch marks marred the rock face around it. The ground was sandy and cool to the touch. Why?"
"Oh... I had a dream. That's all. The tunnel I saw was a cool rock with crystal the color of mirror shards... " The memory flashed through my mind before I could do anything. Bright, like mirror shards. I sheilded that part of my mind a bit more before continuing to speak. " Then my parents and family were dead. A tunnel suddenly came and I went through it to a meadow. It was dotted with flowers and trees and had a lake. I'll be fine." I left out the chase and the fact that he was there in the meadow. I needed to think about it first.
"Are you sure your okay?" He looked at me worriedly, making me very annoyed. I gety that he was worried for me and all, but I could take care of myself. I sighed, trying to getrid of my anger. Finishing my meal, I gazed at him intently; making him shuffle his wings and feet. I smiled inwardly, happy that I still had my gaze.
"I'm fine. Ready to go?" And with that I leaped into the air, leaving a stunned dragon behind.
Thanks so much for reading. I am sorry this is so late. School + moving + sisters = writers block. I finally got it done though. So what do you guys think so far? Thanks for the reads! I have 100 and am so thrilled that so many are reading my budding story. I'll try to update everyother week, because I'm going to update my Ranger's Apprentice book Worlds Away next. Till then.
