"So April...you ever gonna introduce me to those friends of yours?" Casey would ask the question every time April brought up her friends and how cool they were, she said they were four brothers but he only knew the name of one of them, Donnie. April talked about him almost every day, making Casey always wonder about how cool this guy could actually be. "Yeah, eventually." April said moving the food on her lunch tray around with a plastic fork. "But anyways, tomorrow I'm gonna go hang with my friends so you won't have to walk me home." She said giving him a smile. "Why can't I just walk you to their place?" Casey asked furrowing his brows. "I thought you had hockey practice, Case? Besides, Donnie can just meet me half way." April took a bite of the weird pasta they had served for lunch that day. "Yeah but c'mon, Red, when do I not walk you home? I don't like you walking alone when it's getting dark. You seen what happened to me, why won't you just let me?" Casey asked, he was getting annoyed at his friend's stubbornness.
"Because.."
"Because what? You think I'm jealous of them or something? I promise I'm not, Red. I just wanna make sure you get there safe, you know I don't see you like that."April sighed, she didn't know what to tell him, she couldn't tell Casey the real reason why he couldn't go with her, but god, was he persistent.
"That's not what it is, Casey... If it means that much you, I'll let you walk me half way, then I'll walk with Don the rest of the way. But you can't come to their place...not yet at least." April put her hand over Casey's.
"I can live with that." He said, giving her a gap toothed grin.
But he still wondered what was so special about these guys.
Why couldn't he just meet them?
+++The school day came and went, that afternoon April and Casey went along with their normal routines.
Casey walked the girl home and then went straight to his own.April decided that she would call Donnie to let him know that Casey would be with her tomorrow.
The phone rang for a moment before the she heard someone on the other line, "Hey, D. So you know my friend who always walks me home?" April nervously bit her lip, wondering how she should phrase things.
"Yeah, Casey, right?" Donatello answered on the other end.
"Yeah that's the one... Well the other night he got attacked, honestly I think it was some purple dragon pricks, and now he refuses to let me walk alone. I told him you always meet me half way, but that wasn't good enough for him. He said he would walk with me to meet up with you." April twirled her fingers around in the ends of her hair, she figured Donnie wouldn't be too pleased about Casey.
"That's fine with me, but he can't come to the lair with us." Donnie said, April sighed out of relief. Then she remembered what Casey had told her about the night he got attacked. "Oh! Donnie, before you hang up I have more to tell you.""Okay, spill."
April took a deep breath before telling Donnie, "I think Casey seen Raph.."
"What?! How? April we already told you, you can't tell your friends about who we are!" Donnie sounded like he was panicking.
"I didn't tell him anything! The other night when he was being attacked he said that someone in a trench coat had come and beat up his attackers." April was talking with her hands as if Donnie could see her.
"Well, that certainly sounds like Raph... I'll ask him about that." Donnie stroked his chin before continuing, "Well, tomorrow evening I'll meet you two a few blocks from the high school, to protect myself I'll be wearing a black hoodie and sweats, you'll know me when you see me." He said, spinning around in the office chair he had in his lab. "Okay, Donnie. And don't get Raph in trouble for interfering with those guys that were attacking Casey... Casey didn't see what he looked like or anything, he said he just seen a man in a coat."
+++That night Casey sat on the rooftop of his apartment building, he had rolled up a joint in his room before he climbed up there, so he pulled it out and began to light it. On the street below him he could hear a commotion, he brought the lighter away from the joint in his right hand and tucked it into his back pocket. He put the joint between his lips and took a couple puffs before peering over the edge of the building. Below him he could see two men arguing.
*
Casey p.o.vIt struck me as odd that there were even other people out at this time. Unlike the rest of the city, the area I live in was pretty dead, especially at this time of night. It sounded like they were arguing about a woman, I shrugged my shoulders, I looked around at city below, nothing else seemed out of the ordinary.
My eyes drifted to an alley between two buildings, thats when I seen two white eyes looking up at me.
There's no way the weed is making me see shit like this. I had only hit it twice. I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, when I opened my eyes there was no longer anyone staring back at me. The eyes didn't look like an animal, but they didn't look human either. I can't lie, it spooked me.
"I gotta start going to bed early." I muttered to myself, rubbing my eyes.
I stood up, still looking down where I had seen the eyes. I stepped away from the edge of our apartment building, I could hear the tiny pieces of debris crunch beneath my feet.
I sat back down, crisscrossed, looking around in circles. That pair of eyes was mysterious, the shape of them looked relatively familiar, but I couldn't put my finger on it...+++
I woke up the next morning feeling disgusting, the stale taste of morning breath mixed with the cotton mouth from smoking last night was almost gross enough to have me ralphing all over my bedside table.
I was still in my school clothes from yesterday and my hair was stuck to my forehead.
It was already eight o'clock in the morning, so there was no need to try to rush to school, I was already late.
I rummaged through my dresser drawers to find something to wear and ran around in circles looking for my shoes. I set the clothes on my bed and threw my shoes down by my doorframe before heading to the bathroom.
I brushed my teeth and scrubbed that disgusting taste of dry mouth off of my tongue. I turned the shower on, letting the water heat up before I jumped in.
I stripped myself of my clothes, they were almost stuck to me.
I stared at myself in the mirror for a moment, looking at the bruises that painted my chest and stomach, they were a deep shade of purple and some were yellow around the edges.
It made me feel a little pathetic that a complete stranger had to jump in and save my ass, but part of me wanted to figure who that stranger could've been .
I trailed my finger along the bruises, it wasn't anything I'd never felt or seen on myself before, but I still felt a little helpless nonetheless.I knew I was a queer, but I certainly wasn't a wuss, I was just caught off guard that day, that's all.
Those guys weren't even that big, my dad is like two times their size and he can't even lay a beat down on me like this ... at least not anymore.
I opened the shower curtain and finally stepped in, the water hot water made the scrapes on my knees and my shoulder sting, but it was tolerable.
I combed through my hair with my fingers and my ran my hands over my face. I'm sure by now April was blowing my phone up with texts asking why I'm not in first period.
I continued on with my shower, washing my body and letting my hands travel to places they probably shouldn't have.I'm a horny teenager, what can I say?
