Straightening out his black T-shirt with 'Killers' on them and wearing his grey beanie, Louis took a long glance in the mirror at himself. Finally satisfied with his look, he excitedly took his phone and wallet, and stepped out of his old rundown flat which he got at nineteen. He just couldn't wait to meet Briella, and her cute temper. It would be a lie if he said he didn't have any expectations. Of course he did. He had dated his fair share of girls, but no one had gotten this much adrenaline pumping through his veins as Briella did. And he had an undying love for excitement, for kicks, for rushes in his life. He just couldn't live without them. That is exactly why he had gotten himself thrown out of two primary and four secondary schools. And he loved every second of it. His parents, not so much.

Louis knew Briella wasn't that interested in him, he wasn't that stupid. He could see right through her when she was busy snatching the phone. That's what tempted him in, that's what captivated him to her even more. She was the first one, to not show interest. And Louis just couldn't accept that. He wanted to make her want him. He was ready to do anything for that. She was his new challenge. And Louis wanted to win it, to win her.

The time they had both decided for the date mutually was 6 PM and Louis was quite early. He quickly settled in his old but efficient car and made his way to "Right For You" shop, as both Louis and Briella had agreed to meet there. He was thirty minutes earlier and didn't mind waiting a little. The smile on Louis' face was so big, even he was scared that his jaw would break. He didn't know why a girl whom he didn't even know that well and who didn't even like him, affected him so much. It just did. He had no idea why whatsoever.

It was 6 now, and the Louis' smile got bigger. 'She would be here just any moment now' he thought and did a little victory dance. It was Sunday today, the only day when he got off from work, and every week he had big plans for this day. He would go clubbing with his friends, or go to visit his mum and sisters. Or simply watch a Disney movie, cuddle in the blanket and eat M&M's. Today, he had plans for none of this, today, he had a date with a beautiful and smart girl who he was sure would steal his heart. His mum rang him up today, asking him to come over. After all, she had baked his favorite chocolate-chip and peanut butter cookies, and all of his sisters were at home for a change, but Louis had to turn down the offer, sadly.

In fact, he was so excited for the date, that he even called up his friends to ask for some tips on dressing up for a casual date and what-to-do and what-not-to-do. He wanted to be ready. Even though it was casual, he had prepared something very special for Briella. Something that would definitely win her over. And Louis just couldn't wait for her to see it.

7:00 P.M

Louis' face formed a frown, and his brow tightened. Briella was running a little late today. Of course he knew that girls took more time to get ready, and preferred to be "fashionably late", but still. 'She should have been here by now, what happened ? Did... did something bad happen to her ? No, no. Louis don't think like that, you moron ! Always the pessimist ! She might be coming. She might be on the way. Maybe she got stuck in traffic. Yup, that's it.' All these thoughts were running through his head, and he nodded. He took a seat at a bench placed besides the shop. The fresh lilies in his hand were threatening to wilt. Louis sigh'ed.

8:20 P.M

The flowers were left on the bench, and Louis was now worriedly pacing the sidewalk. He just couldn't stop. He stupidly called Briella's number and then realized he had her phone. Had he been stood up ? The thought made his goosebumps rise. No way, of course not. Yeah, his tactics to get this date weren't up to the mark, but Briella had accepted the date with a smile afterwards, hadn't she ? And she said she would be here. 'I'll wait a little more, just in case'. Louis thought and shrugged.

9:48 P.M

Louis was storming now. Why would Briella stand him up like that? Specially when he had used his three months of savings on the private park reservation, picnic basket and fireworks. It all had gone to a waste now. Louis' stomach growled, it hadn't had anything in seven hours. At the same time, his throat itched. He needed water. Right now. As if god had heard him, he felt something on his head. Water. It was raining. 'It's bloody raining now ! Great, thanks god !' Louis mocked the sky, and kicked a pebble with his foot. He let out a frustrating scream as he got drenched in water and the flowers withered away. Then he started running. He ran, and ran all the way back to his flat and quickly went inside, slamming the door shut.

Swiftly taking off his clothes and shoes, and keeping his phone and wallet aside, he jumped into his shower and released a long breath.

Hot water started pouring out on him, and he closed his eyes. He faced the shower, letting the droplets of water fall directly on his face.

Louis was angry, confused, sad, bitter but mostly hurt. It was quite a foreign feeling for him. He had experienced it only a few times. Like when his parents divorced, when his sister broke his brand new Xbox which his mother had gifted him at his 10th birthday after so much plea and months of hardwork, like when his grandpa died and he was utterly heartbroken, and a few other times. This times though, he wasn't sure if being hurt was right or not. Was a girl he had just met this week worth it ?

But Louis knew the answer, even if she wasn't, he was still going to be hurt. It was simple really, because she was different. She was special. And Louis had high expectations from her. Even though he didn't know what to expect from her, even though he didn't know her that well, even though he knew she was tough and rigid. She still made his heart beat faster, his cheek tint red, his words stutter, and his thoughts hazy.

He turned off the shower and stepped out. Quickly wrapping a towel around his waist, he went inside his room and put on his favorite Peter Pan Pajamas.

Louis lowered himself on the bed and realized something out of the blue.

Even though he didn't understand any of Shakespeare's language and writing, even if he personally didn't like them much, one thing that he very righteously said was

"Expectation is the root of all heartache."
