As Jack and Maya exited the aid car they looked at one another and nodded. Although they had broken up, they still respected one another's work ethic. They ran around to the back of the aid car and took out of all the necessary supplies and then split up.

The scene surrounding them was worse than the initial call had made it seem. A silver Honda minivan was t-boned on the driver's side by a convertible Ford Mustang. The mustang no longer had a front end and the driver of the vehicle was nowhere to be seen. Maya yelled for Jack to locate the driver of the convertible while Maya tended to the victims in the minivan. Maya always hated when minivans were involved in crashes, because it was almost inevitable that children would be inside the vehicle.

The driver's side door was unable to be opened due to the collision and Maya would not be able to use the jaws of life without the rest of her team there to assist her. She ran around to the other side of the van and opened the backseat and assessed the scene. She quickly noticed that the driver of the vehicle was unconscious and extremely pregnant. Maya needed the rest of her team to get here quickly so they could extract her safely. As she continued to look around she noticed a young boy covering his hands with his face in the very back of the van. It appeared that he had unbuckled himself and made his way to the back of the van after the crash.

"Hi, I am here to help you," Maya stated. "Everything is going to be okay. What is your name?"

He didn't speak, but instead started to rock back and forth in the seat. She noticed that he had a small cut on his forehead that began to dribble blood. Maya also noticed that on the passenger seat in the second row the seatbelt had a cover on it. She had seen these before, and they were extremely helpful because they alerted first responders about the specific needs of the child. This cover said, "DEAF." Maya did not want to frighten the child anymore, so she exited the van.

She radioed for Jack. She knew that he was able to communicate with the child using sign language.  Maya asked, "Jack, what is your status? Did you locate the driver of the convertible? I need your assistance in the van."

The wind began to pick up making the interference on the radio a little choppy, but Maya was able to hear what he had to say. "Yes, he was ejected into a yard about 25 feet away. Unfortunately, he was D.O.A. (dead on arrival). I will be there as soon as I can."

As Jack made his way back to the van, Maya looked up to see the rest of Station 19 headed her way. She radioed for them to bring the extraction tool and filled them in on the deceased male driver. Dean and Travis, two male firefighters from the station, headed towards Maya with the jaws of life. Andy and Vic took a body bag towards the male victim.

Maya opened the passenger door to put a c-collar on the neck of the pregnant woman as the men worked on getting access to her door. In the meantime, Jack was communicating with the young boy in the back. He was able to calm him down, get him out of the vehicle, and over to the aid car where he could be assessed.

As Maya put the neck brace on the woman she began to stir and blink her eyes rapidly. The firefighter knew how confused she must be and was certain she had probably suffered a concussion from the crash. She was quick to reassure her.

"Ma'am, my name is Lieutenant Maya Bishop with the Seattle Fire Department. You were in a serious car crash, but we are here to help you."

"My son, where is -," she trailed off before she lost consciousness again.

"Work quicker!" Maya shouted just as the two men busted through the driver's side door.

Maya worked with Dean and Travis to extract the pregnant woman from her seat and onto the gurney. From the looks of it, she had suffered a broken leg and had several cuts on her face from where the shattered wind-shield had punctured her.

As they loaded her into the aid car, Maya radioed Grey Sloan Hospital, "This is aid car 19 in route to Grey Sloan. We have a Jane Doe, driver in a motor-vehicular crash, she appears to be about 30 weeks pregnant. ETA is five minutes out."

Maya hit the sirens and the gas as Jack stayed in the back with the woman and her son. For now she was stable, but still unconscious. Jack worked to hook her up to the machines to read her vitals and then ran an IV so he could administer her pain medication. Maya glanced back and noticed that Jack was still communicating with her son using sign language as he tried his best to multitask and work on his mother.

As they pulled into the back of Grey Sloan, Maya quickly exited the aid car and ran around to open the back of the vehicle. A team of doctors ran out and Maya quickly rattled off her vitals and status. Just as Maya was finishing talking, she saw a tall slender brunette woman run out of the sliding doors towards the aid car.

In all of the years Maya has been bringing patients to Grey Sloan she had never seen this doctor. As the doctor approached the gurney, Maya began to stumble over her words.

"Do we know how far along she is?" the doctor asked in an Italian accent.

Maya was in a trance. She looked back up and with bashful eyes. "Sorry, what did you ask?" Maya asked embarrassed.

"Do we know anything about her pregnancy?" the mysterious brunette doctor asked again, this time a little annoyed.

"Oh, sorry no," Maya stated.

The team of doctors quickly worked to roll the gurney inside. As Maya began to talk to the next team of doctors about the status of the young boy, she looked towards the sliding doors hoping to get one final glance of the Italian doctor. Maya looked down embarrassed when she noticed that the brunette doctor turned her head to look backwards as well. However, in that moment before Maya looked down, their eyes connected. From first glance Maya knew that maybe this Wednesday wasn't going to be completely spoiled after all.
