Chapter 8

August had helped me get back home yesterday. I still couldn't get our almost-kiss out of my head . There wasn't any school today so I was left at home alone.

I was in my room watching an episode of the walking dead when I herd the doorbell. I hurried downstairs expecting to see my mom at the door but there stood Jaquan. We hadn't talked since she found out about Able and Stella.

"Hey" she smiled but it didn't reach her eyes. "Is it okay if I hang here with you? Sitting alone at my house gets kind of depressing" she was hurting. She tried to hide it but I could still see it clear as day. Her smile was bright but the dark circles around her eyes said another story.

I stepped aside so she could come in and once the front door was locked Jaquan burst into tears. "I don't know what went wrong!" I pulled her in for a hug "what did I do wrong....". I wanted to tell her she didn't do anything wrong, that Able was the wrong one.

Monday mornings..... I had come to really hate them.

*buzz* *buzz* *buzz*
I didn't even bother trying to kill the alarm clock.
This was the last week befor Christmas break. My mom never really gave me two weeks off on Christmas so this is new. I also never got a week off for thanksgiving..... now that I think about it Saturday and Sunday's were the only days I was off except for summer and all.

My mom drove me to school today apologizing a thousand times. Once I was in school I went straight to my art class and got out the rose I had been working on. It wasn't just a rose now. It was a whole rose bush except it had just one rose sticking out in color .it had been the one I first started with the rest of the roses were a blur of grey black and white creating a dramatic background. The only rose in color had dark red lines going through the petals like blood red veins.

"Wow" August breath. I jumped in surprise. I hadn't realized he had been watching me. " Ur really talented" I looked up my breath got caught in my throat at how close we were. I was quickly reminded of our almost-kiss. I looked down and blushed.

At the end of class I hurried to get my stuff packed up and made my way to my next class. "Hey,Lina?" August said caching up to my pace.i stopped and smiled.

"Do you maybe want to go get lunch with me?" He smiled.

That freaking smile.

"So um....." I snapped out of my daze and took out my phone " I don't know, I usually eat lunch with Jaquan..... " Robot girl said . "Oh um..okay-" "I'm sure she wouldn't mind, just one day"robot girl cut him off.

" We don't have to go back to school " I looked at him with a questioning look "I could show you around.... So you don't get lost again." "I've lived here practically all my life I just don't get out much" robot girl explained " oh... Well I never saw you in school or-" "homeschool" robot girl said ,I sighed. " Oh okay where do you wan to go first?"

August took me to 'one of the best places to get food' as he put it. Then the 'famous Art museums ' and a bunch of other historical landmarks I didn't even know existed in this town. I didn't know wether to be impressed or creeped out by his knowledge of this town.

"Where are we going, it's getting late" robot girl "just wait" August said. He had hi eyes fixed on the road.... They looked hazel with the a ray of sun shining through the window. I couldn't hep but st-

" Your staring " he said with a smirk on his stupid beautiful face.i turned away and started fiddling with the radio.

"We're here" August said pulling the car to a stop. From where I could tell we were on a cliff. I don't know if that's a good thing or not.

He got out of the car and walked out of sight.

'What a gentleman' (sarcasm noted)
I hurried to get out of my the car and my breath fought in my throat.

It was freaking amazing

The view. It was like you could see the whole town from here, but better. The sun was starting to set casting a shadow over the horizon. Then right there was August. Sitting there on the hood of the car looking like a frigging angel. And then 'long way home' came on on the radio.

'🎶Take me back to the middle of nowhere🎶
🎶Back to the place only you and I share🎶

He jumped off the hood of the car and then in one swift motion took my hand and spun me around. And then his hands were on my waist and we were dancing. Stupid crazy dancing.

I kicked off my shoes, he took off his jacket. The grass was our dance floor and the sun was the spotlight. He scooped me up and spinner me around, I screamed and we fell on the ground. Only to get back up and do it again.

🎶cuz I don't wanna be wasting my time alone🎶
🎶I wanna get lost and drive forever with you,🎶
Talking about nothing yea whatever babe🎶
🎶so we're taking the long way home tonight🎶

Then we were close. Very close. I put my hands in his pocked and watched his eyes widen before pulling out his phone and running off. He ran behind me and grabbed me by the waist spinning me around. Then more dancing .

🎶till the sun comes up we can own this town🎶
🎶something like make-believe 🎶
🎶living in a movie screen🎶

the song came to an end, with me and August lying next to each other on the hood of his car watching the stars. I realized Jaquan was right. We hadn't spoken once since we came here. Sometimes we don't need words.... Sometimes some people make it seem like words don't matter.

But they do....
