Chapter seven

After my date with Hunter was over I felt an urge to change some things about myself sure I would always miss River and I would dedicate my life to finding him but I needed to start picking up the shattered peices and stop feeling sorry for myself.

I wanted to find out who I was and the best way a girl could do that was through clothes. I called up my old friend Asia (River and I used to play with her sometimes as kids).

"Um hello?" Asia answered.

"Hey Asia." I responded immedeatly

"Raine?" he voice was questioning "we havent talked since-for a long time." She said.

I knew she was going to say something about River and I was just glad she stopped before I actually heard what she was going to say.

"Yeah I know it's been years huh?"

"Yeah whats up i mean like how are you holding up."

"Fine." I said ready to get to the point "I wanted to know if you wanted to go shopping."

"Seriously?" she asked she sounded overwhelmed.

"Err yeah seriously." I said things were getting a bit awkward.

"I couldn't pass up a deal like that let me tell the rents im meeting you at your house same adress right."

"Yup same adress." I answered.

We hung up and I went to go get dressed. A few minutes later Asia showed up at my door. "Hey stranger are you ready to go?" she asked "Ready as I'll ever be." I said cheerfully. "Great we can take my car." She offered so we made our way to her car.

"Look I know you miss River and all." Asia said while looking at a pretty strapless black dress "But do you wanna like discuss it I mean it's been pretty hard for me to cope too,Not only was he my friend I had a massive crush on him." I giggled. "You seriously had a crush on River?" I asked "He was a total flirt." With Asia it was almost like talking to ms.Bird I could say a few words about hunter without bawling my eyes out. It wasn't like that with mum or kelly.

"Well he was a flirt he was always talking to girls instead of guys and he was a gentleman too." she said her eyes dancing with laughter. "You were eight!" I said "Of course the little twit was a gentleman." I said picking up a floral mini skirt "Why did they even do this this is a total fashion Faux pas." I said 

"You my friend are hilarious you should hang out more often." I nodded "We really should." I said "I mean don't tell kelly I said so cause I really do love kelly but she wasn't neccesarily in our clique growing up so she doesn't understand what was so special about River." "Yeah I get it." she said "Mindy hates that I talk about him so much..." She stopped talking.

"What is it?" I asked "I know this sounds crazy." she said "But I don't believe River is dead I seriously think he's out there somewhere."  My eyes flew open. "Really?" I asked. "I know its dumb I mean the casket was there." "Asia I actually...I never thought River was dead eaither when i rushed to the casket...there was nothing there it broke my heart thats why I hold on to his memories so tightly because I never got closure his body wasn't there."

"Youre lying." She said bluntly. "I swear on Rivers grave there was nothing or nobody in that casket when I ran up there to look they lied to us." I said. "Youre serious." she said "There was nothing there was there?" I shook my head no. "Oh god we have to tell jake,and kelsey, and corbin,and-" she was breathless.

"No no no." I said. "I only told you the truth because I knew that you and River were close." I said "We can't tell the others." she shrugged "I guess we can't." she said then we were silent. looking for clothes and filling our shopping carts. 

"soooo I heard through the grapevine that you went on a date with Hunter-from-America." She said. "So basically Kelly told you about our date." I said. "how'd you know?" she asked "she's the only one that calls him by that nickname like really Hunter-from-America." She laughed "I guess it is kinda silly." she said "How was it?" 

"Hunter is a pretty cool guy considering I thought all guys from America were jerks." I said "Remember Princeton Wylie?" I asked. She nodded. "I can't believe kelsey set you two up like really he was a jerk." "He stood me up on our second date and said it wouldn't work because he thought I was in love with River." Asia burst out laughing. "It's not funny." I said "He thought I was in love with someone I hadnt seen in six years!" she waved the remainder of a chocolate covered pretzel at me. "you know it was funny." she said "You couldn't even cry when it happened all you could do was eat froyo and laugh."

She was right about that. When I got stood up by Princeton Wylie I didn't shed a single tear. I watched the lion king ate froyo and laughed uncontrollably. "Fine it was funny but only a little."

By the time we left the mall we were drowning in shopping bags and our stomachs were full to th ebrim. "We should totally hang out more often." "We should get spray tans." I said out of the blue. "Why on earth would we do that?" she asked swerving hard out of the shock from my suggestion. "I dunno I guess Hunter has a nice tan and weve been living with this clammy skin for AGES!" My skin was already a caramel color but England still made my skin look clammy instead of creamy and flawless. "Okay hows next sunday sound?" She asked to my surprise. "After sunday service of course." I say before gathering all my shopping bags and heading into the house with Asia behind me.

"My heavens Asia darling is that you?" I rolled my eyes at my moms statment. "My dear Raine hasn't had friends over for centuries." "You're exaggerating mum." I said simply before brushing past her with the heavy bags. "You two fell out again didn't you?" she asked "As usual." I said "Another argumant about River." She shook her head.  "Whta is it with the two of you?" she asks "Hopefully your dad won't pass any time soon there would be hell." I sighed "Dad says it's because mum feels that my relationship with River was unhealthy and she's afraid ill never get over it." I shrugged "Really all I want is closure I want to know what happened to him before I let it go."
