"Come on Sam! Seriously?"
"You are single and bored and there's a party! So yeah, seriously."
I started to whine but no! I have the most persistent best friend in the world. And then Sam had to open her big mouth again.
"Nikki! Reality check! You are going to be alone for the rest of your life if you don't look for a guy! You don't even have to look for a guy! You are gorgeous and those boys would be lucky to get you with them for a minute!"
"Can't you go alone? Please?" I'm literally on my knees, begging Sam to let me stay home.
"Nicole Alexis Wuornos. You are going to that party." I hear my mom finally speak after standing at the door for the last hour. She knows that I hate it when people use my whole name.
"Really Mom. Really. My name doesn't scary me. Plus I won't be alone all my life, I have Sam." I roll my eyes and point to Sam.
"Nope. Nuhh Uh. Definitely not. I'm not going to give up my chance to be with Mr. Mc-Hotty just cause you don't want to go to a party. You have to go."
"Mr. Mc-Hotty? Really Sam. Come on you can't force me to go to a party." I would have said more but then I remember that my mom is at the door. "Wait, mom why are you even encouraging this? It's a freakin' high school party."
"First of all Nicole," but I cut her off.
"Nikki."
"Okay Nikki," she nods her head when she corrects herself. "First of all, it would be a new experience. And you could make more friends."
"If by more friends you mean tons of people who either want to humiliate me or get into my pants then okay I'll go." I shrug.
"Nicole!"
I put my hands up in defeat. "Hey, it's the truth Mom. High school in the 80's isn't the same as high school now so if you want me to get wasted then so be it."
"Just go to the stupid party and watch out for each other." My mom finally leaves me and Sam alone in my room.
After standing in silence for a while we start looking for what to wear to the party.
"Nikki, I know you say your not rich but this closet is huge! And you have tons of clothes. Not all cute but a lot of it."
"Hey!" I say trying to defend my clothes. Even if I do know that she's right, my pride won't let me admit that my mom still finds joy in buying 'her little girl' clothes.
"It's true! Just saying."
We keep looking until my eyes find my favorite dress that I never brought myself to wear. I tell my mom that the occations are never special enough but I love it. The dress is a strapless black dress that stops mid thigh. The skirt part has this thing that Sam calls FruFru.
When Sam sees me staring she says, "Why are you staring at it. It's yours, just put it on!"
I studder, "Y-Yeah. Um, O-okay."
"Because putting on a dress is more nerve-wrecking than talking to a group of guys." Sam says with so much sarcasm, it's contagious.
"Yeah and so is getting you to stop talking. Both so hard."
"Hardy-har-har"
Then we both double over laughing up to the point where neither of us can breathe.
When we caught our breathe, we got the dresses and started getting ready. I let Sam borrow a ruby sparkly dress that I have. Of course it's knee length and and strapless too. It's my favorite type of dress.
After getting our hair and make-up done, we headed downstairs to say bye to my mom."Where are you going you NiNi?" How can I go somewhere without my personal body guard aka my older brother Alex.
"God, do you have to call me NiNi?"
"It's nice to know that even my little sister thinks that I'm sexy enough to look like a god.""Eww! No Alex! You're more like the devil! I'm just going to a party."
"Okay. Call me if you get too drunk," he winks at me before going back into his room."BYE MOM!"
"BYE MRS. WUORNOS!" We both yell bye to my mom before rushing out of the house.*************************
