"Do you have any brothers or sisters?"
"Yeah I have a big brother in the military. And a seven year old sister." Duke tells me.
"How old are you?" Sam asks a question this time.
"Seventeen in 3 months."
"When's your birthday?"
"November 10th," he says to me again.
"What's your favorite animal?" leave it to Sam to ask him that, I say to myself.
"I like snakes but I really love dogs." He says with a smile.
"Do you like cars." Sam and her dumb questions.
"Yeah. My favorite is the Aston Martin V-12 Vantage"
"Mine too!" I squeal.
"What's that?" Sam asks the both of us.
"Only the best car ever. The engine, the horsepower, the speed. Its perfection." I say to Sam.
"I like a girl who likes cars. Hey everyone!" Duke yells and gets almost everyone's attention. "I think found my soulmate!" My jaw drops. He is not doing this to me again. I hear guys hollering and whooping. Some girls are just staring but most of the noise is made by the guys.
"Are you trying to kill me?" I ask Duke. He shrugs his shoulders and puts his hands on his chest. "Now why would I kill my soulmate." I can feel my face turning red by his words.
"You-you. Ugh!" I stand up and go into the locker room. Why would he say that? Why would he embarrass me not once but twice in one day? We just met and he keeps saying all of these things. Why? My thoughts just cloud up my brain. I sit there for 5 minutes before someone comes in. I thought it was Sam until he spoke.
"I keep messing up, I know. And I'm sorry." he says. Messing up what? I brush my thoughts to the side.
"Duke, just leave me alone. You have embarrassed me twice today and in my life that is just two too many. Just leave me alone!" I raise my voice.
"I'm sor-" he starts
"I don't care! Stop saying sorry and just don't do it! Plus, I thought I told you to go!" Now I'm yelling.
"Okay. I will." and with that, he leaves the locker room. I'm surprised that Sam didn't barge in after he left. Since she didn't come in I sit in the locker room alone until the bell rings. And when it does, I make sure I'm out before Sam or Duke can see or catch up to me.

I reach the lunch line and just take what ever the lady puts on my plate. I sit down outside at the corner table. When I down at the food, I realize that I don't like anything that's there so I stand up to throw it away. When I turn around, I crash right into Matt Zalanski. Could my day get any worse?
"What the-" we both say at the same time. I look into the piercing brown eyes that I have always been fond of. In all honesty, I have known Matt my entire life. We were good friends in elementary but then Marissa came to Portland right before middle school. They have been dating on and off since then, and I have been out of his picture since.
"I'm sorry." he surprises me by saying it.
"No, it's okay. It was my fault anyway.
"No really I'm sorry. Let me help." He left for a second but then came back with a wet napkin. "Here." I didn't notice it but there was chocolate milk in my shoulder. He started dabbing at it and cleaning it but it wasn't long until the Evil Duchess came along.
